We all remember Ray Edwards making his only memorable non-punching play of the year by tackling Chris Ivory by his long dreadlocks.  At that point I believe most people said, "Wow, I forgot Ray Edwards was still a Falcon." Well his disappointing 18 months as a Falcon is over as Jay Glazer reported, later confirmed by the Falcons, that Ray Edwards has been released.  He was never going to be back next year with a salary escalating to over $5 million next year but the front office was not happy with the status quo and got rid of their underperforming "pass rusher." From Rotoworld: Atlanta signed Edwards to a five-year, $27.5 million deal before the 2011 season after he recorded 16.5 sacks for the Vikings in the 2009-10 seasons. He was replaced in the starting lineup after the Week 7 bye. Edwards recorded just nine tackles and zero sacks in nine games this season after notching just 3.5 sacks in 2011. The Falcons will employ a rotation led by Kroy Biermann. Edwards should be able to find work on a much lighter contract. Ray Edwards finishes his Atlanta career with only 3.5 sacks in 25 games.  No word yet on who will take his roster spot but Atlanta does have plenty of defensive end depth between Lawrence Sidbury, Jonathan Massaquoi and Cliff Matthews, one of whom should finally see some defensive reps.
