Last Saturday, Saturday Night Live parodied Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis during their Weekend Update segment, making light of his ultra-emotional state as he approaches the final game of his career this coming Sunday in Super Bowl XLVII. However, it should be noted that this was not the first time that SNL has parodied Ray Lewis, as SNL also did so in animated form after the Ravens won Super Bowl XXXV. Back in January 2001, Lewis won the Super Bowl XXXV MVP, but was not given the postgame Disney World commercial spot traditionally given to MVPs of the big game due to his conviction for obstruction of justice relating to a homicide at a party in Atlanta the year before. The commercial appearance, and the trip to the amusement park that goes along with it, was awarded to Ravens quarterback Trent Dilfer instead. Two weeks later, SNL featured a TV Funhouse animated sketch featuring Disney's "apology" to Lewis over the slight: "Disney now acknowledges Trent Dilfer sucks, and wishes to make amends to Ray Lewis with this exciting new home video...It's an all-star cast of Disney favorites and the Super Bowl MVP in Ray of Light." The unauthorized, R-rated "Ray of Light" video/DVD featured a cartoon version of Lewis inserted into some classic Disney movie scenes, with some dark humor linked to the alleged involvement in the Atlanta homicide. Lewis was shown fleeing some of the Disney movie "crime scenes" in a limousine, such as the Bambi scene where Bambi's mother gets shot and the Beauty and the Beast scene where Beast gets stabbed. Lewis also denies his involvement in Simba's death during a scene from The Lion King, and even sings about it. With Ray Lewis returning to the Super Bowl, this seemed like the perfect time to resurrect this classic sketch. If this synopsis of the sketch sounded funny to you, then you'll definitely enjoy watching this one. WARNING: Some NSFW language is implied, although it is censored. DISCLAIMER: The Disney "Ray of Light" video/DVD is not real and does not exist. Disney also has never made any statement, real or implied, that Trent Dilfer sucks.
