Niners Central:
The 49ers lost center David Baas to the New York Giants, but they weren’t about to lose one of their up and coming defensive players. Defensive end Ray McDonald has reportedly signed a five year, $20 million deal with the team.
It appears that he will get his chance to start this year.
If Aubrayo Franklin signs with another team, it will open up the left defensive end spot as Isaac Sopoaga would move over to the nose tackle position.
At 6’2, 330 pounds, Sopoaga fits the nose tackle position better anyways, so the 49ers won’t be willing to meet Franklin’s likely high price.
Despite having 0 sacks last season, McDonald was a priority for the 49ers to re-sign and the team will likely make him a starter.
