Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather will miss the rest of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate knee ligament in Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington coach Mike Shanahan announced Monday. The contest against the Eagles was Meriweather's first game of the season after being sidelined with injuries to his knee. Meriweather, who is in the first year of a two-year, $6 million deal, was a starter in Sunday's game. He had an interception, but injured his knee in the second half without being hit. Meriweather wrote on his Twitter account, according to the Washington Post, "I want to start off by saying I'm sorry to all the [R]edskins fan[s]. Y'all are the best. But this was a bad season for me." He also said, "I promise that I'll be back next [year] better then ever. Hard work pays off. God had something different for me this year. So see y'all next" year.
