After Clay Matthews hit Colin Kaepernick late, out of bounds, that led to a mini brawl in which 49ers LT Joe Staley was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct, offsetting with Matthews late hit on Kaepernick. Referee Bill Levy explained after the game how he incorrectly enforced the penalty
“On the play where the quarterback (Kaepernick) went out of bounds and was hit late out of bounds, and then there was a subsequent hit by a San Francisco player, the down should have counted,” Leavy said. “The penalties were both dead ball and they should have offset at the spot where the runner went out of bounds. And it would have been fourth down.”
The 49ers then scored on the following play on a TD pass, where they may have gone for a field goal if it was 4th down. This was a pretty big error to make in the first week of the season.

A 49ers player ended up getting penalized in the little fight that broke out afterward, too, though, meaning Green...

The Green Bay Packers found a way to keep Colin Kaepernick in the pocket and stop all those read-options runs that embarrassed them in the playoffs.
They just had no answer for his arm.
Or his newest receiver.

The San Francisco 49ers opened the 2013 NFL season with a very good win over the Green Bay Packers. The game was a high scoring game that featured a clash of two of the better teams in the NFC. The 49ers showed that they are still one of the more physical teams in the NFL but they can win by letting Colin Kaepernick throw the ball.
The Packers were so concerned about not allowing...
Another twist in what has become the most scrutinized play in Week 1, the NFL has now come out and said that 49ers Tackle, Joe Staley, did nothing wrong when he confronted Clay Matthews and that the play should have resulted in 1st and Goal from the 3 for the 49ers. So if you were keeping up, instead of 3rd and 6 from the 10, it should have been 4th and 2 at the 6, but if everything...
