Reuben Foster is hoping his Scouting Combine slip-up will be forgiven. John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears haven’t featured a dominant inside linebacker since Brian Urlacher was playing, so it’s not exactly surprising that they’re interested in potentially using their No. 3 overall pick to acquire one. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the team hosted former Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster on Monday.

Now, just because Chicago picks at No. 3 overall doesn’t mean they have to use that pick to land Foster. Given the teams that desperately need a quarterback, it’s possible the Bears could trade down a few spots or more if he’s their targeted player.

Still, it’s notable that the Bears are showing such interest in Foster. Remember, this is a player who was kicked out of the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine after allegedly threatening a medical worker while he was standing in line waiting for his turn (more on that here).

Foster did attend his pro day at Alabama shortly after that incident and apologized to NFL teams in attendance. He also took responsibility for his actions, and at least some teams reportedly came away impressed.

In terms of pure football skills, instincts and raw athleticism, Foster is certainly worth a high draft pick. He reminds this scribe of Patrick Willis and plays the game with a burning intensity.

He’s also known to be a bit vicious on the field (watch here), which could also be an endearing quality for defensive-minded head coaches. John Fox certainly fits that mold, and he’s desperate to improve his lot in Chicago.
