Browns coach Rob Chudzinski isn’t ready to commit to Jason Campbell or Brian Hoyer as the team’s starting quarterback for Week 3 even though Brandon Weeden will likely be sidelined Sunday with a sprained right thumb against the host Minnesota Vikings. Weeden underwent an MRI on his thumb Monday after suffering the injury Sunday in the fourth quarter of the Browns’ 14-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens a team spokesman confirmed. X-rays on the thumb were negative Chudzinski said. It wouldn’t be surprising if Chudzinski ruled out Weeden against the Vikings in one of the next few days. But that hasn’t happened yet because the Browns want to see how Weeden responds to treatment. On other hand it is a bit surprising Chudzinski wouldn’t publicly declare Campbell his top contingency plan because he has been the No. 2 quarterback since the spring while Hoyer has been third on the depth chart. The new regime signed Campbell and Hoyer in the offseason. Campbell has taken the majority of the s...

Weeden's Future With The Browns Is In Jeopardy

The Cleveland Browns entered the 2013 season hoping, that in his second year, and with a Norv Turner offense more compatible with his skills, that Brandon Weeden could rise to the occasion and become the quarterback that this franchise has desperately needed.  At least that was the perception the team wanted the fans to have.  We learned later that the current regime never had...

Weeden was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game at Baltimore when he hit his hand on a helmet after throwing a pass. It was announced on Wednesday that third-string quarterback Brian Hoyer would get the start in the battle of 0-2 teams on Sunday when the Cleveland Browns take on the Minnesota Vikings. The hometown kid is getting the starting nod. One day after saying the decision had not yet been made, Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski announced that their starting quarterback this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings will be one Brian Hoyer. Week 2: Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens open thread

Over the last four seasons, no 0-2 team in the NFL has eventually made the playoffs. This afternoon, the Browns head off to Baltimore to see which AFC North team will fall to the basement of the division in the early part of the 2013 season. The Ravens will be passing out their Super Bowl rings before the start of the game. The Browns will hope that the offense shows some signs of...

Browns third-string quarterback Brian Hoyer will start Sunday against Minnesota in place of Brandon Weeden, who sprained his right thumb last week. Writer’s Block Roundtable on the boring Browns and Indians playoff race

It isn’t always easy to populate the pages of WFNY. Sometimes there’s just not a lot of things to say. So, I decided to devote a roundtable to just that. The Writer’s Block Roundtable. Craig: So how’s everyone’s day going? The Indians lost. The Browns ruined another week of sports talk radio. Cleveland sports fans have been turning on each other whether it’s over Brandon...

Browns seeing their relevancy for a generation slipping away

These thoughts have been going through my tortured mind since the end of week 1, when the Browns looked like a Division I-AA team, losing at home yet again on Opening Day, this time to the Dolphins. Well done, Brokaw. That was fast. Week two had my hopes still a bit inflated, as I was thinking that Weeden's flashes he shows, albeit all too rarely, were going to...

Brian Hoyer, Trent Richardson … Cleveland Browns are tanking

The Cleveland Browns have made it pretty clear this week that they are building for the future and, for lack of a better term, tanking this season. The 0-2 squad made two moves on Wednesday that seem to indicate they are trying to position themselves to land the top overall pick in the 2014 NFL […]
