Football players are supposed to be some of the toughest guys on the planet. Rashad Johnson took that perception to a whole new level on Sunday. The Arizona Cardinals safety lost part of his middle finger during Sunday’s loss to the New Orleans Saints, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. Johnson discovered the injury only after taking the glove off of his right hand and realizing that part of the finger was still in it. He underwent surgery on his right middle finger on Sunday night, with doctors shaving the finger down to about the first knuckle. The most amazing part of Johnson’s gruesome injury, though, is not that he lost part of a finger in the game — because, he lost part of a finger! — but rather that he kept playing through the pain. Johnson isn’t exactly sure when the injury occurred, although he thinks it was on a Darren Sproles punt return during the game, but the 27-year-old safety stayed out on the field anyway not realizing the brutal truth until later. Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson suffered an extremely uncommon injury during Sunday’s loss to the New Orleans Saints. Fortunately, his career is not in jeopardy. During the Saints’ 31-7 beatdown of the Cardinals on Sunday, Arizona safety Rashad Johnson suffered an injury that is as horrific and nauseating as it gets. One of the more compelling — and easily the nastiest and disturbing — injury report to emerge from last weekend’s slate of NFL games was how Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson suffered the most bizarre of injuries when the tip of his middle finger was severed during a special teams play. Challenge and adversity is nothing new to the Arizona Cardinals. Heck, they had John Skelton has a QB for awhile and I don't think they've ever had a running game! When it comes to adversity you can do one of two things--curl up in a ball and cry as you dream about being in Happy Gilmore's happy place (minus Shooter McGavin) or make the most of it.
Heck, you can even...

Maybe it’s the teenage boy in me, but seeing a severed finger is SO COOL. Cardinals DB Rashad Johnson says he took off his glove and part of his finger remained inside. Apparently he thought he tore a nail off when he saw blood leading out but nope. NOPE. It was his finger tip.
Johnson later posted the photo to Twitter/Instagram.
