Colin Kaepernick is not done with his football career, despite reports indicating otherwise. Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Despite a report to the contrary, a person who has spoken with Colin Kaepernick says in no way has the free agent quarterback “moved on” from football.

Dave Zirin’s tweet is in direct reference to a line from Peter King’s Monday Morning Quarterback column for The MMQB.

“I spent a long draft weekend with the Niners in California, and there are those in the building who think Kaepernick might actually rather do social justice work full-time than play quarterback.”

It’s no secret Kaepernick has been shunned by the NFL community at this time. He hasn’t been receiving any real interest since opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers after the 2016 season.

While he waits for his chance, Kaepernick has contented himself with his charitable work, including setting up camps for children to teach them their rights as well as sending a plane full of goods to people in need in Somalia.

That Kaepernick can still play the game at a level above the average for an NFL quarterback isn’t really a question that needs to be answered.

Even playing for a 49ers team that lacked much offensive talent last year, he threw 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions in 12 games. He’s never going to be a prototypical pocket passer who completes 70 percent of his passes a la Drew Brees or Tom Brady. But he’s still better than many passers who have landed jobs this offseason — something that’s not lost on some players who think he’s being blackballed.

Whether Kaepernick lands an NFL job this summer will be an interesting storyline to follow as quarterbacks fall by the wayside to injuries. Time will tell whether he’s being blackballed because of his political beliefs or if teams are just waiting for the right opportunity to bring him on board.
