ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Colts doctors initially diagnosed Reggie Wayne‘s knee injury as a torn ACL.
Mortensen adds that the team is “hoping for a miracle” from Wayne’s MRI today.
Wayne planted his leg while trying to catch a pass from Andrew Luck that was off target and his knee flexed rather awkwardly. It’s never a good sign to see someone go down without contract, especially if it’s related to their knee.
Following the game, reports indicated that Wayne teared up after he spoke to team doctors, which further suggests that the team believes his injury could be of the season-ending variety
The Colts will need to turn to T.Y. Hilton and Darrius Heyward-Bey for the foreseeable future. There are options available in the trade market such Hakeem Nicks, Kenny Britt and Josh Gordon, but Indy has already parted with a first-round pick for Trent Richardson, so they may not want to what draft picks they have left for a receiver.
