Jim Haslett hasn’t enjoyed much success as an NFL head coach, but sometimes another chance is all you need. Haslett is drawing preliminary interest from at least two NFL teams with head coaching vacancies, according to The Washington Post. Haslett has spent the last two seasons serving as the Redskins’ defensive coordinator. Prior to that, he coached the Florida Tuskers of the UFL to a 6-0 record and an appearance in the 2009 UFL Championship Game, where his team fell to the Las Vegas Locomotives. At the NFL level, Haslett’s teams have struggled with him as head coach, although he did earn NFL Coach of the Year honors in 2000, when he guided the Saints to a 10-6 record and a division title just one year after a 3-13 finish. Following that success, Haslett failed to bring the Saints to the playoffs the next five seasons, going 35-45 in that span. Haslett was fired by the Saints following a difficult 2005 season in which the team went 3-13 while dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans hired Sean Payton to replace Haslett, who then became the Rams’ defensive coordinator. Haslett served in that capacity until St. Louis fired Scott Linehan in 2008, at which point Haslett became the team’s interim head coach and went 2-10 the rest of the way. Haslett’s brief stint as the Rams’ interim coach marks the last time he held an NFL head coaching gig. If there was ever a time for him to hop back in the saddle, though, it might be now, as seven head coaches received pink slips on Monday. Photo via Flickr/Keith Allison
