The New England Patriots worked out an "incredibly out of shape" Clinton Portis on Friday, according to the Boston Globe.
The veteran running back "wasn't fit at all", according to the newspaper's report.
Portis, who will turn 30 on Sept. 1, gained just 721 yards in 13 games played over the past two seasons with the Washington Redskins.
A second-round pick by Denver in 2002, Portis rushed for consecutive 1,500-yard seasons with the Broncos before being traded to Washington for stud cornerback Champ Bailey.
Portis is just 77 rushing yards shy of 10,000 for his career.
