Quarterback Carson Palmer has been in direct contact with Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown, but there has been no change to their current impasse. NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reported on Saturday that "those phone calls have proven to be fruitless. (With) each phone conversation, they get further and further apart." The Bengals told ESPN's John Clayton that they will not trade Palmer by Tuesday's NFL trade deadline. Palmer threatened to retire after last season but is now sitting out the final year of his contract. He threw for 3,970 yards, 26 touchdowns and 20 interceptions last season. Cincinnati is 3-2 this season behind rookie quarterback Andy Dalton, a second-round selection in April's draft.
