NEW YORK - APRIL 22: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announces that the St. Louis Rams selected quarterback Sam Bradford from the Oklahoma Sooners first overall during the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall on April 22, 2010 in New York City. Contrary to published reports, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has not talked to suspended New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton about ending the coach's suspension early, NOLA.com reported Thursday. However, league officials said that Goodell has begun talking about the matter internally. ESPN.com reported Wednesday Goodell has allowed for the possibility of a Payton reinstatement prior to the Super Bowl. Payton would like the suspension to end after the regular season, a source close to the coach told ESPN.com. Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue made a final ruling on the Saints' bounty scandal Tuesday, prompting questions about whether Goodell would allow Payton to return early from his season-long suspension. Currently, he can't be reinstated until after the Feb. 3 Super Bowl in New Orleans. "I don't want to say he could be because, again, we are in the early stages," Goodell told reporters. "We are starting to talk about it."
