The Oakland Raiders may have just re-signed one of, if not the most important piece to the future of the team. Chris Hansen of The Bleacher Report has said that sources are telling him the Raiders and Veldheer have come to terms on a five year contract. Source tells me the #Raiders and Jared Veldheer have agreed to 5-year deal with 6th year option. $23 guaranteed. Total value $55M. — Christopher Hansen (@ChrisHansenNFL) March 7, 2014 Let me reiterate that the deal hasn’t been signed yet. Could be final wrinkles to iron out. — Christopher Hansen (@ChrisHansenNFL) March 7, 2014 I believe the total value includes the 6th year for Veldheer. — Christopher Hansen (@ChrisHansenNFL) March 7, 2014 This is HUGE news for the Raiders and shows that general manager Reggie McKenzie is still staying true to his word to keep home grown talent in Oakland if at all possible. The Raiders certainly waited until the last minute to get Veldheer under contract, but if the numbers are correct, Veldheer and the Raiders both look to have come out ok. Veldheer gets a good deal and the Raiders lock up one of the most important positions in football for five and maybe six years.
