According to Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net, the Raiders plan on taking the safest player with the third overall pick in Thursday’s draft. The Oakland Raiders have been well known for massive surprises in the draft’s first round. That’s likely to change on Thursday. One source familiar with the situation told me expect the Raiders to select the “surest of the sure” with the third pick. Right now it looks like the pick will be one of the offensive tackles, if available, or Shariff Floyd of Florida. Other sources mentioned Star Lotulelei of Utah is also in the mix. With all of the mistakes the Raiders have made in the past, they better get the safest player.  The only problem is that the “safest” player can always turn out to be a bust.  Former Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry was supposed to be a safe pick and I’m not even sure he’s even on an NFL roster any longer.   Need NFL Tickets?

Oakland Raiders: 2013 full mock draft

Second year general manager Reggie McKenzie and the Oakland Raiders coaching staff have a huge hill to climb in rebuilding the once-dominant franchise. That climb began with the parting of ways of nine defensive starters from 2012, in addition to their starting quarterback, two of their top three leading receivers, and their all-pro punter. After signing several serviceable free...

Mayock: Raiders will draft Lane Johnson or Sharrif Floyd with the third pick

According to Rotoworld.com, Mike Mayock of the NFL Network believes the Oakland Raiders will draft either left tackle Lane Johnson or defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd with the third overall pick. NFL Network’s Mike Mayock predicted on Path to the Draft that the Raiders will either select Oklahoma LT Lane Johnson or Florida DT Sharrif Floyd at the No. 3 overall pick. Mayock is...

Matt Flynn gets the start as Raiders offseason workouts begin

Matt Flynn is in the place he thought he'd be up in Seattle, under center and starting. At least for now, and likely the start of the season, the Oakland Raiders will begin offseason workouts with Flynn as their starter, GM Reggie McKenzie announced, via Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle. “Two things that I feel are important and that’s presence, as far as leadership...

Jeremiah: Sharrif Floyd could fall out of the top-ten if Raiders pass

Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network believes that Florida defensive tackle Sahrrif Floyd could fall out of the top-10 if the Oakland Raiders pass on him with the third overall pick.  I believe Sharrif Floyd could fall out of the top 10 if the Oakland Raiders pass on him at No. 3. The teams picking fourth through ninth either don’t fit Floyd scheme-wise or they are set at...

Raiders Draft Possibilities: D.J. Hayden and Miguel Maysonet

We continue our Draft Possibilities series with two prospects who have been flying under the radar for different reasons, but who have seen their stock take an upswing as of late. The Oakland Raiders are still looking to add a talented, young cornerback despite the recent additions of free agents Tracy Porter and Mike Jenkins. Also, the Silver & Black [...]

Mike V's mock draft – the final outcome

This is my third annual final mock draft, and for the final outcome I will try and simulate the possible outcomes with trades going up and down by teams. You will see some picks that have not been on any of my other mock drafts after reading some late news from each organization. I have spent hundreds of hours looking at mock drafts, video of these players and listening to the...

Oakland Raiders 2013 Schedule: Predicting the Wins and Losses

The Raiders may be having a "rebuilding" year whether they know it or not. They finished the 2012 season with a 4-12 record, and only had wins over three teams, granted they beat Kansas City twice. I asked my crystal ball to show me how the Raiders' season would end this year, and this is what it showed me.Week 1: Raiders @ ColtsThe season opener for the Raiders will...

Raiders looking to trade down?

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen believes the Oakland Raiders would love to trade down from the third overall pick, but not out of the top seven. This makes a lot of sense because the Raiders would accumulate more picks if they trade down, and they need them.  If they stay in the top seven they could still get a premier player. The post Raiders looking to trade down? appeared first on Pro Football Zone.

Raiders Draft Possibilities: Sharrif Floyd and Star Lotulelei

Continuing our Raiders’ Draft possibilities series, we take a look at the top two prospects at the defensive tackle position. The Oakland Raiders will certainly look very different over that spot of the field in comparison to the 2012 season, as only Christo Bilukidi, a former 6th round pick on that year, remains in the roster. Tommy Kelly has recently [...]

Raiders look to reverse bad draft fortunes

For seven straight years starting in 2004, the Oakland Raiders had a top 10 pick in the NFL draft only to end up disappointed in the outcome. Six botched selections and one misguided trade later, the results from those years add up to no playoff berths, no winning records, no Pro Bowl invitations and only oft-injured Darren McFadden left on the roster. There were perceived safe...

The Taiwan Jones Experiment: Can Taiwan Jones Be An Effective Cornerback For The Oakland Raiders?

After running a 4.3 40-yard dash at his pro-day at Eastern Washington, no one was really surprised that Taiwan Jones would be wearing the silver and black jersey of his hometown Oakland Raiders. Al Davis craved speed and Jones looked like the perfect speed back to compliment running back Darren McFadden. However, over the next two years Jones did not see the field enough as a running...
