The New Orleans Saints reportedly restructured the contract of middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma. Terms of the deal were undisclosed for Vilma, who is facing what is expected to be a hefty suspension for his role in the team's bounty scandal. On Friday, NFL executive vice president and general counsel Jeff Pash said punishments are coming "soon." A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Vilma reportedly offered $10,000 to knock out Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre in the 2009 NFC Championship Game, according to a league investigation.

Report: Saints restructured Jonathan Vilma’s contract

According to Larry Holder of CBSSports.com, the New Orleans Saints have restructured the contract of linebacker Jonathan Vilma.  We don’t have the numbers yet of his new 2012 salary. There were rumors earlier in the offseason that the Saints might release Vilma, but it looks like he agreed to redo his contract in order to stick around.

Saints Nation: Saints Re-Do Deals for Greer and Vilma

Jonathan Vilma and Jabari Greer have redone their deals to give the Saints some cap relief. This time the Saints needed the relief because Drew Brees' franchise offer went up from around $14 million to around $16.5 million. The Saints were ~500k under the cap before yesterday, but Brees' franchise offer hike would have put them ~$1 million over before these re-structures...

Saints lock up Jabari Greer through 2015

The Saints and cornerback Jabari Greer have agreed to terms on a three-year extension worth about $23 million, according to Kevin Spain of the Times-Picayune. An eight-year veteran in the NFL, Greer spent his first five seasons with the Buffalo Bills, arriving in New Orleans in 2009 – the year the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV. During his time in the big easy, Greer has posted 176...

Saints Nation: Saints Are in Limbo Due to Player Suspensions

It's bad enough that Roger Goodell levied an extremely harsh sentence on Sean Payton, but the waiting game on player suspensions makes it even worse. We already know Goodell is going to punish the team even more by laying down players suspensions, but it's the delay of that inevitability that is starting to cause even more problems. If, God forbid, these suspensions get announced...

Gary Myers thinks Roger Goodell will stagger the Saints punishments

In an article which attempts to analyze the various ways Roger Goodell could hand down punishment to individual members of the Saints defense, Gary Myers of the New York Daily News opines that Goodell will not suspend all of the affected players concurrently.  He believes that forcing all the suspended players to sit out at the same time would be “vindictive” and would essentially...

Talking NFL Draft with The Saints Nation

Once again, Andrew Juge over at The Saints Nation invited me to talk a little NFL Draft.  I appreciate the opportunity to dive into the NFL and specifically, the Saints, each year around this time.  We also talk plenty about LSU's draft eligible players, the top draft picks out of the SEC, and some underrated and overrated players in this draft.  I also encourage you to make...

Trying to read the tea leaves in New Orleans

Earlier today, linebacker Jonathan Vilma restructured his contract with the Saints, although financial details were not disclosed.  A few hours later, the Saints struck a new multi-year deal with cornerback Jabari Greer, which just happened to augment the Saints’ cap space for the current season. Meanwhile, Drew Brees’ contract remains unfinished, although John Clayton said...

Saints, CB Greer agree to three-year extension

The New Orleans Saints inked cornerback Jabari Greer to a three-year, $23 million contract extension Friday, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.Greer had one year remaining on his previous contract with his base salary being just under $6 million. The 30-year-old had 71 tackles and an interception in 16 games for the Saints last season.

Bring on the 2012 NFL Draft….PLEASE!

Thank you NFL Draft, for restoring normalcy to a wickedly insane offseason. The playoffs were a downright bummer for this Saints fan. The Super Bowl was whack. Then came that ***** of a snitch, bounty drama, and the exile of Sean Payton. And of course, the Saints have yet to freaking sign Drew Brees. So needless to say, this chick could use the distraction that the draft tends...

Saints Nation: New Defense Requires Players to Step Up

This season will kick off with a brand new look on defense for the New Orleans Saints. With suspensions being inevitable for MLB Jonathan Vilma, SS Roman Harper and DE Will Smith, a couple players stick out to me that need to step up in order to run a successful defense. Curtis Lofton will need to take a leadership role right from the get-go of training camp and OTA’s. One of the...

Lawsuit by former players against NFL cites Bounty System as evidence

The recent Bountygate scandal in the NFL could hurt the league in more ways than one. Four former players sued the football league on Apr. 16 in an Atlanta court and cited the bounty system used by the New Orleans Saints as evidence and proof that the NFL didn't protect its players properly. The legal action was initiated by Lomas Brown, who retired in 2002 after 17 years in...
