Houston Texans DE Antonio Smith will be suspended for one regular-season game and the team's two preseason games for forcibly removing the helmet of Miami Dolphins OL Richie Incognito and then swinging it at his face, ESPN is reporting.
Smith, who is also being fined an undisclosed amount, will appeal the one-game regular-season suspension and the fine, a league source told ESPN.
The incident Saturday occurred during the second quarter when Incognito was trying to block Smith. Incognito appeared to grab the face mask of Smith, who responded by ripping off Incognito's helmet and swinging it at the lineman.
Smith declined to talk about the incident, telling reporters after the game that he "took a blow to the head. I can't remember."
Smith's history was another factor in the decision, according to ESPN.
