The Detroit Lions' peaceful offseason reportedly has taken a disturbing turn for the worse. According to a newspaper report, safety Amari Spievey was arrested Tuesday in his hometown of Middletown, Conn., following a domestic altercation with his girlfriend. The Middletown Press reported that the dispute centered on child-support payments, citing the police. Here's the rest of the story as reported by the Press: Spievey, 24, was charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct. Lisamarie Santos, 26, was charged with risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct. Spievey and Santos, who have been living together, have a 2-year-old daughter. Santos told police that Spievey put his hand around her neck and pushed her into a counter. Police confirmed that Santos had a small red mark on the front of her neck. Spievey told police that Santos pushed him while he was holding their daughter. He also said he pushed Santos away after she grabbed his throat. Spievey went to to tell police that She threw a "flurry of punches" into his chest. Spievey insisted he already pays child support and would do anything for his daughter; however, he told police he would not pay for Santos to go shopping and pay off her student loans. A court date has been set for April 11. Spievey suffered a concussion last season -- at least his second in less than a year -- and missed the final 10 games. He was cleared for contact, however, before the Lions re-signed him two weeks ago. Spievey, a third-round draft pick by the Lions in 2010, started 24 games his first two years in the league and two more last season before the injury. This was the first arrest for a Lions' player during this offseason. The team received a lot of bad publicity a year ago when players combined for seven arrests from January through July.
