FLORHAM PARK, NJ - JANUARY 21: Rex Ryan addresses the media during a press conference after being introduced as the new Head Coach of the New York Jets at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center on January 21, 2009 in Florham Park, New Jersey. (Photo by Andy Marlin/Getty Images)
Rex Ryan came to the aid of Tim Tebow, who has been the subject of unnamed teammates ridicule, but in doing so, further kicked the fallen star even more in the mud. “Our punt game hasn’t been better,” Ryan said, with a straight face, and he’s right with the Jets 7th in the NFL for special teams. However, isn’t Tim Tebow also the back up quarterback?   “Every single day when he hits the field, he works about as hard as anybody I’ve seen. He stays longer than probably every player we have, working on those skills,” Ryan said. “He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do.” “Tim Tebow came here to be the backup quarterback. We never brought him in here, to be the starting quarterback. We already had a starting quarterback in Mark Sanchez I thought I was clear on that from the day we brought Tim in here. But what we were also clear on is that he’s a football player and we’re going to use him in different roles.” The Jets are 3-6, and quarterback is your biggest hole, but who will come in if Sanchez were to get hurt? Greg McElroy is the 3rd string quarterback but Tebow is the back up, but not the starter if Sanchez goes down? Yeah, right if you say so Rex. var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});
