Rex Ryan has been known to thump his chest and make grand proclamations but now — with his team  nursing a 3-5 record but still only two games behind the Colts and Steelers in the AFC wild-card race — a more subdued New York Jets head coach is trying to make sense about the Jets playoff chances.  Or is it scents? "I know we're not where we want to be," Ryan said Monday.  "We're not even close.  We're not sniffing the playoffs.  We're not sniffing anything, but I want to get there, man.  I'm excited about the prospects in front of us." Ryan pointed out that it is possible for the Jets to get a wild-card berth and has been taking suggestions about changing things from his coaching staff before the Jets meet the Seahawks in Seattle.  The head coach wouldn't reveal what changes he will make after the bye week.
