Bombastic Jets head coach Rex Ryan was fined $75,000 by the NFL, a ruling he won’t appeal, for telling a Patriots fan to “Shut the f*ck up!” in response to being told that coach Bill Belichick was better than him as he walked off the field at halftime of last Sunday’s 37-16 loss to New England.

Said Ryan (via SI.com)…

“The commissioner’s got a tough enough job,” Ryan said. “I’m an NFL lifer. I know I represent the NFL and I know I represent the Jets, so I’m accountable for my actions.”

“Quite honestly, the man’s made a decision, and if his decision is that I should be fined $75,000, then that’s the way it is,” Ryan said, when asked if the punishment was excessive. “I just want to get it behind me.”

Considering that there were whispers that Ryan’s fine might be in the six-figure range, he best be thanking his lucky stars that Roger Goodell only dinged him for a cool $75,000.  But knowing how excitable Ryan can get, it shan’t be to0 far down the road before he pops his mouth off again and he’ll be forced to cough up a $100,000 grand or so. That’s just science.
