Richard Seymour had football on his mind during the weekend but it wasn’t focused on the Patriots against the Falcons. It was focused on Georgia-LSU. While the team he helped win three Super Bowls was in town to face the Falcons on Sunday night only a few miles from his home Seymour was in Athens hollering for his ninth-ranked alma mater which beat sixth-ranked LSU 44-41 in a thrilling SEC contest. After 12 years of hand-to-hand combat in the NFL the 33-year-old Seymour rejected several offers this offseason to continue his NFL career including one from the hometown Falcons. Although he had some interest in playing one more year for a playoff contender he had no interest in playing for what has become standard wage for most NFL veterans these days: the minimum. Instead Seymour opted to embark on a new endeavor. He’s been studying for his private pilot’s license. Now that must be a big plane. But with defensive mainstay Vince Wilfork’s season coming to a sad end early Sunday night at the Georgia Dome when he tore the Achilles tendon in his right ankle it seemed logical to at least explore the possibility of Seymour coming back to where it all started for him for one last run at a ring. “No way’’ Seymour said laughingly. “But that’s sad news about Vince.’’
