U Mad Bro? Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has been called many things.  On the field, Optimus Prime is probably the most creative nickname labeled upon him while still fitting a G-rated category. Though a self-given moniker, the title was also earned by his handling of Megatron, the Detroit Loins’ wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who Sherman held to three catches and 46 yards (both season lows) in their 2012 week 8 matchup. Richard Sherman can be brash, aggressive and a blasting cap for volatile situations (Google ‘I’m better at life than you’).  However, off the field, there really is more to the guy than meets the eye. Saturday, July 6, 2013 is the official launch of Blanket Coverage, The Richard Sherman Family Foundation.  The purpose of Blanket Coverage is to provide support for children enrolled in Washington state schools between the grades of K-12.  It will help ensure that as many children as possible will be provided with proper school supplies and adequate clothing. Richard Sherman was robbed of a starting spot in the 2013 Pro Bowl. Photo: Elaine Thompson/AP The idea for the foundation was born from the struggles of Sherman’s own youth.  Growing up in Los Angeles, Calif., many of his friends and classmates lacked the proper school supplies necessary for their education. Despite the fact that countless parents in the area held down two jobs, they were still struggling to provide sufficient supplies and clothing due to economic struggles. During Saturday’s official launch dinner, a silent auction will be held to help raise funds for the foundation, featuring items such as Seahawks game worn gear and a Shawn Kemp autographed Sonics jersey. Then, on Sunday, July 7, 2013, a charity softball game will be held in Tacoma, Wash. with current and past NFL stars such as Russell Wilson, Golden Tate, Larry Fitzgerald and Terrell Owens in attendance to help raise awareness for the foundation. There is no doubt in my mind that on the field, Sherman will continue to have the ego and swagger that breeds love from the 12th man and hatred from pitiable sports commentators and professional wide receivers everywhere. However, it’s nice to see a young athlete trying to enact meaningful change through a cause they have a personal connection with, showing it means more to them than just a tax break.  My hat’s off to you, No. 25. Golden Tate reunites with 'Fail Mary' ref

Golden Tate and NFL replacement referee Lance Easley, who credited the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver with the game-winning touchdown in Week 3 of the 2012 season, reunited on Sunday. Easley umpired Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman’s charity softball game at Cheney

“Fail Mary” replacment referfee was the umpire at Richard Sherman’s charity softball game (Video)

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman thought he would have some fun and invite former NFL replacement referee Lance Easley to be the umpire at his charity softball game. Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate was able to reunite with Easley, who’s the official that gave him the game winning touchdown from last year’s controversial Monday night win over the Packers that sent...

Sherman Hires “Fail Mary” Replacement Ref

USA Today Sports Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman hosted his annual charity softball game today.  He also made a move that is probably similar to kicking a Packers fan in the shin.  Among other umpires was the ‘fail mary’, ‘shameful’, ‘Seattle Screwjob’ culprit, Lance Easley.  He was one of the replacement referees in the 2012-2013 season during the NFL referee...

Seahawks DC Dan Quinn says young LB’s Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright are the building blocks for the future at position

Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has a lot of talent on his young defense, but the secondary is the unit most people think of first. The Pro Bowl laden secondary may be the premier group, however, the linebackers and in particular Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright are starting to make a name for themselves. They are the defense’s top tacklers from the 2012 season...

James Carpenter slated to start for the Seahawks

After suffering two knee injuries within the first couple seasons of his young career, Seahawks guard James Carpenter is slated to start this season, per The News Tribune. If healthy, Carpenter is slated to start at left guard next to Okung, replacing Paul McQuistan. That pairing gives Seattle a dominating combo similar to the days of Jones and guard Steve Hutchinson. Seahawks head...

NFL Fantasy Football: 10 tips to remember come draft time

I’m a Seattle Seahawks fan and hope Darren Fells turns into Tony Gonzalez, but I’m not taking that emotion into the fantasy football draft with me. I’m not a fantasy football genius, but I’m not as dumb as I used to be. I’ve been playing for six or seven years now. I once dropped Brandon Jacobs at 3AM thinking he was Brandon Jackson. I once picked a backup quarterback...

RB Marshawn Lynch DUI case continues to drag on, no court date set

The Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch continues to not have a date for his DUI arrest that occurred last July.   According to Eric D. Williams of the Tacoma News-Tribune, a hearing on a motion to suppress evidence was continued from today until November 1.  While a trial date could be selected on Thursday, July 11 at a pre-trial conference, it is unclear if Lynch would...

Richard Sherman tones it down a bit, focused on conference, not 49ers

Richard Sherman has been trying to bring the rhetoric down a notch this year as much as he possibly can. He normally shoots from the hip and tells the truth as he sees it, making him everybody's go-to guy for a great soundbite. When asked by NFL Network's Lindsay Rhodes if NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers were the focus this season, he broadened his answer to a wider...

John Moffitt will compete for a starting job in Seattle

According to the News Tribune, Seahawks third-year offensive lineman John Moffitt is expected to compete with J.R. Sweezy for the starting right guard spot during training camp. Moffitt, a third-year pro, and converted defensive lineman Sweezy split practice repetitions at right guard with the first unit during Seattle’s offseason program while the two battle for the starting job...

Marshawn Lynch’s DUI case scheduled for pre-trial

According to the News Tribune, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch made an appearance in court today regarding his DUI arrest from last year. Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch’s court date scheduled for today regarding a motion to suppress evidence in Alameda County Court was continued to Nov. 1, according to Teresa Drenick, assistant district attorney for the Alameda...

Golden Tate reconnects with referee

Ah, replacement referees. Remember those first few weeks of the 2012 NFL season? When rules were confused, calls were botched, and coaches looked absolutely fed up with the NFL because the league's regular referees were demanding a raise? Arguably the most controversial call made during the brief but impactful Replacement Ref Era was The Immaculate Touchception that gave Golden...

Golden Tate Reunites With Ref Who Gave Him Infamous Touchdown Call

If you are a Packers or Seahawks fan you surely have not forgotten the touchdown which looked like it was falsely awarded to Golden Tate, costing the Packers a 14-12 loss during week 3 of the 2012-2013 season. Well, not to rub salt in the wounds if you are a Cheesehead, but Golden Tate recently reunited with the replacement referee Lance Easley, during Richard Sherman’s Celebrity...

The NFC West Dominates the FXP Power Rankings 1.0. Do the 49ers or Seahawks come out on top?

The 49ers and Seahawks are among the Super Bowl favorites this year.  I put together my predictions for each teams record.  Fans need to remember that bad teams can end up with better records if they have an easy schedule.  There will be many teams this season that are better than their records.  I expect the Colts and Redskins to be better teams, but have worse records. ...

Seahawks, replacement ref Lance Easley get together for charity softball game

Lance Easley became a household name in a matter of seconds last September. For those who don’t remember, Easley was the NFL replacement referee who made one of the most controversial calls in sports history and gave the Seattle Seahawks a win over the Green Bay Packers on national television. Over the weekend, Easley got [...]
