GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Less than 40 hours had passed since San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had fumbled away a game-winning field goal attempt on Monday Night Football. San Diego went on to lose in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs and fell into a three-way tie atop the AFC West at 4-3.Now, Rivers has to prepare in a short week for a game against the undefeated Green Bay Packers on Sunday. You have to let that one go, Rivers said in a Wednesday teleconference about his costly mistake against the Chiefs. Im not so much worried about that being nationally televised. Im worried about losing the game, even if we were the only ones there. You let down the guys. You have to move on.Obviously this is another big game (against the Packers). Its going to be a huge challenge and obviously we need to get back to winning a football game. We havent won one in a while.Rivers numbers are down considerably this season, with seven touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. He had 58 touchdowns and 22 interceptions over the past two seasons combined.I wish I had something to blame, but I dont, Rivers said. Some throws got away from me and Ive made some poor decisions. In large part due to Rivers wild throws, the Chargers are 25th in the NFL in turnover differential. San Diego has forced 11 turnovers on defense while committing 16 turnovers on offense. Those years weve gone on a run, weve protected the ball, Rivers said. Obviously through the first seven this year, we havent done so. Obviously, Ive had a big part in that. We cant be careful necessarily, but we certainly need to be smart and take care of the football. Thats one of the biggest reasons for any team in how they win or lose. The Packers are 4th in the league in turnover ratio with 16 takeaways and 8 giveaways.Even though Rivers statistics are below the norm for the three-time Pro-Bowler, Chargers coach Norv Turner hasnt noticed much difference in his quarterback's game this season.Hes made some unbelievable plays, made some big-time throws, Turner said. Weve had some great drives. Obviously the difference in being great and being good, its three or four plays. I think theres some plays that hes trying to make something happen when its not there, and some of that has to do with being in a game, its a tight game, and youre trying to make a play that gives your team a chance to win.
