Fox Sports Southwest:
IRVING, Texas During a Tuesday morning radio interview on 105.3 The Fan, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones compared Tony Romo to New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton.
Payton, also a former college quarterback at Eastern Illinois, coached Romo early in his NFL career. With Romo having more input in the Cowboys' offensive game-planning this year, Jones made the statement while discussing Romo's knowledge of the game.
Romo was asked about that comparison after practice on Tuesday.
"Comparisons are, you know, just I think more than anything you just kind of get to the point where you understand the game at a certain level," Romo said. "For me, I think sometimes I think about the game very detailed. Little things matter tremendously as far as the outcome of plays the releases, the differing things as far as where you want people on certain plays at what depth. And a lot of good coaches do that stuff. I just think you see it that way a little bit more when you get older."
So does this mean Romo is on his way to one day becoming a Super Bowl winning head coach?
"I couldn't imagine coaching," Romo said. "Those guys work incredibly hard. To me, it's such an incredibly fun grind as a quarterback. I don't ever envision not playing right now, so I can't imagine ever thinking about it in any different way than playing the game."
Romo joked that Payton was "going to end up stealing some stuff from us this year, so it's going to be fun."
Jones' comparison is sure to get brought up again when the Cowboys travel to New Orleans for a Sunday night game on Nov. 10.

Yesterday, the former Cowboys safety and three-time Super Bowl champion Darren Woodson was asked what he thinks are the ingredients to winning in the NFL. His answer included two of the weakest areas on Dallas’ roster. “You have to win in the trenches,” Woodson said before the Cowboys Kickoff Luncheon at AT&T Stadium. “That’s the […]

The Dallas Cowboys released nine players, moved two to injured reserve and placed another in the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday. Defensive end Tyrone Crawford and guard Ryan Cook were placed on injured reserve, while Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jay Ratliff was moved to
The New Orleans Saints head into the much-anticipated upcoming 2013 NFL regular season with a clean slate and high expectations after languishing without head coach Sean Payton—who served a year-long suspension as a result of the league’s investigation into the team’s alleged “bounty” program. The Saints set a league record for the most yards allowed in a single season...
The final preseason game is usually a going-through-motion affair for most NFL teams. It's even moreso for the Dallas Cowboys, who have already played four of these practice games.
So what's there to look for in Thursday's Lone Star State battle with the Houston Texans?
If you're hoping to see Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, DeMarcus Ware and all of the Cowboys' bigger...
RG3's knee in Washington, Chip Kelly's arrival in Philadelphia and Tony Romo's contract in Dallas were some of the biggest stories in the NFL during the offseason.
Left out were the New York Giants, the NFC East's best team the past five years.
That's just fine with the four-time Super Bowl champions. When they've been overlooked recently, the Giants sneaked...
As a man coming off a season-long banishment that sent his franchise into an extended patch of turbulence Sean Payton wouldn't seem to be a likely candidate for a Wanna Get Away? experience.
Trust him or anyone else in The Crescent City: He was away far too long.
Yet there was Payton on Sunday afternoon in Houston in his third preseason game since resuming his role as the New...
Every week as the season gets closer we will look at players that are on the rising and falling. After the third week of preseason and Training Camp, here are the players that are on the move.
Two of my favorite QB targets in drafts are Tony Romo and Andrew Luck. Reggie Wayne is still a stud, TY Hilton is a budding star, DHB is better than...
In a series of games that don’t count, you might say that NFL Preseason Game 3 is the only one that actually does. That’s because we see the starting players on the field for a longer length of time than any other game. Most starters won’t play for a single snap in the 4th game and in the first two games, they might just play for the first quarter. But in the first half...
