Pro Sports Daily:
The Jets have until today at 6 p.m. to get their roster down to 53 players.
The most interesting question right now revolves around the No. 3 quarterback spot. Matt Simms completed 33-of-44 passes for 285 yards on Thursday night against the Eagles. Was it enough to secure him the third-string job over Greg McElroy?
Jets coach Rex Ryan raved about Simms yesterday.
“Oh my goodness” Ryan said. “He always had that big arm. Clearly he has the arm talent to play in the league. Quite honestly I don’t know if I’ve seen somebody make the improvements he’s made.
“A lot of that credit goes to [offensive coordinator] Marty [Mornhinweg] and [quarterbacks coach] David Lee but mostly the credit should go to him. He’s been resilient. He’s stayed in there and has done a great job of learning the system. He has been absolutely outstanding in these preseason games. You certainly have to tip your hat to him.”
It would be surprising if the Jets dumped Simms but you never truly know at this time of ...

In the preseason finale, the New York Jets gave Matt Simms his most extensive NFL action since coming into the league in 2012. Simms played the entire game against the Philadelphia Eagles and left the coaching staff impressed and the fans wanting more.

The 2013 NFL season is right around the corner. While many fans are excited, a lot of head coaches are nervous — they could soon find themselves unemployed.
Five coaches in particular are feeling the heat before kickoff. A number of them will need the NFL’s big wheel of parity to spin in their favor, or they’ll be looking for new work.

It looks like the New York Jets are looking to get younger at the quarterback position. They decided to release quarterback Greg McElroy in favor of Matt Simms.

Rex Ryan faces the issues of cuts, competition, and injuries as the regular season fast approaches. The final preseason game gave him enough of a look of the bottom of the roster to make the proper calls on cuts but it doesn’t make it any easier. The Jets still have decisions to make and most of those will come in the next 24 hours.
Rex Ryan and his new svelte figure are looking pretty pumped to be sporting Clemson orange. Can you blame him after the Tigers' huge win over Georgia?
