The chances that safety Quintin Mikell re-signs with the Philadelphia Eagles this season are looking gloomy. Mikell led the Eagles with 88 tackles in 2010 on his way to a Pro Bowl selection as an alternate, he also added three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and 15 passes defended.

While the 31-year-old is widely considered one of the top run-and-cover safeties in the NFL, the team feels they can move forward with the players they already have locked up. “I doubt [they re-sign] Q,” said Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News.

“I think they feel safety is in good hands with [Nate] Allen and [Kurt] Coleman, particularly if they hit paydirt at cornerback.” “They certainly need depth, but something tells me Q will be able to find someplace else to land.” The Dallas Cowboys, who have been desperately seeking a big-name free agent splash at safety, will certainly have Mikell on their radar.
