The Saints’ decisions on draft weekend could have a major impact on OLB Scott Shanle’s status. Shanle, who has been a starter for the Saints since 2006, is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

With Danny Clark and Jo-Lonn Dunbar, two other Saints players with starting experience at outside ‘backer, due to hit the open market whenever free agency begins, this is a position of need for the Saints and it could be addressed early in the draft.

Some team observers say Shanle has been underappreciated by the public during his time in New Orleans as he’s serviceable and doesn’t make many splash plays, but Pro Football Weekly hears the team still likes him and would welcome him back at a reasonable price.

Shanle, an eight-year veteran, most likely would not be in high demand on the open market and could return on a short-term deal.
