New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees just tied Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas' once thought to be unbreakable record of throwing a touchdown pass in 47 consecutive NFL games. There's a good chance Brees breaks the record Sunday against his old team, the San Diego Chargersand Unitas' son will be among those rooting for him to do it.
The Saints, via Facebook on Tuesday, shared an inspiring letter sent from Unitas' son, Joe, that was addressed to Brees at their Metairie, La., headquarters.
"I wanted to take a minute to congratulate you on tying my fathers record for most consecutive games with a touchdown pass," Joe Unitas wrote to Brees. "Ive been follow(ing) your pursuit of the record since last season. Im a big fan of yours, and wish you the best Sunday night against San Diego as you try to break the record. My father always said that records were meant to be broken. I know that if he was still with us that he would wish you the best as well."
Johnny Unitas passed away 10 years ago, but Joe has made sure to keep his father's legacy as a groundbreaking quarterback who paved the way for the modern prolific passing game through the website unitaswestand.com, as big as it was for Brees to break the single-season yardage record last season, the current chase shows how great he's been over the long term.
Joe closed the letter with praise for Brees the person.
"Continue to be a leader for your team and the City of New Orleans. Youre a great quarterback but even better man. Stay healthy and safe this week and in the future. My family and I will be watching Sunday night cheering for you. Best of luck."

Johnny Unitas’ son sent Drew Brees a letter congratulating him on tying his father’s record
There was at least one bright spot for the Saints in the loss to the Packers on Sunday. During the game, Drew Brees tied NFL great Johnny Unitas’ record of 47 consecutive games with at least one touchdown. Brees now has a chance to break the record that has stood for 52 years this Sunday when the Saints play the Chargers. And all he has to do is do what he does best, throw a touchdown...
For Drew Brees & His Saints It’s THE WRONG KIND OF SPIRAL
Written By,Clifford Santa Monica
True, the Saints are an extremely disappointing oh-and-four to start the season. But the 1975 Baltimore Colts started one-and-four as I recall, yet still made it to the AFC Title game where they eventually got stomped by the Steelers 40-14, I think. But their poor start was probably more daunting both because the talent on each side of the ball during...
Drew Brees Sees His Saints Fall By One Point to The Packers They Are now 0-4
The New Orleans Saints could get it done, now they are off to a 0-4 start. Drew Brees did what he could in this one, the Saints defense just could stop Aaron Rodgers from finding the end-zone 4 times to give the Packers a one point margin if victory over the Saints. This one has to hurt Bress more than the other three losses. Brees threw for 446 yards and had three touchdown passes...
Drew Brees, Saints Struggling To Find Spark After Horrible Start
Let's see, where should I start? Worst run defense in the league, pass defense ranks within the last ten teams in the league, only six total team sacks, no running game, numerous mental lapses… bottom line is the New Orleans Saints just aren’t really good right now and things won’t get any easier for them as the season progresses.Coming into the season, I knew the defense...

Chargers-Saints Preview
Drew Brees is on the verge of breaking an NFL record that has stood for more than 50 years.
There's one number that matters to Brees, however, and that's leading the New Orleans Saints to their first win.
Poised to throw a touchdown pass in his 48th consecutive game, Brees looks to help the Saints avoid opening 0-5 for the first time in 16 years Sunday night when they host...
PSW week 4 Fantasy recap
Philly Sports World Fantasy Week 4 recap
Predicting the Saints to lose and they did I am now 2-2, though not the way I predicted it. Drew Brees showed up and showed up big but it wasn’t enough. Fantasy owners got huge points off the 446 yards and 3 touchdowns.
DUD of the week
Cam Newton> had him as a fantasy sit against the Falcons and he has his best game of the year. Having...

Seven from Sunday - Week 4. Drew Brees ties Johnny Unitas, Tom Brady ties Brett Favre and the Vikings and Rams special teams accomplish something that has never been done in the history of the great American game.
Alternate Universe: Are The Saints Done at 0-4?
There has only been one team under the current playoff format that has made the playoffs after a 0-4 start, the 1992 San Diego Chargers who finished 11-5. Something to note about the Chargers team that did this the best teams they beat were a 9-7 Colts team and an 8-8 Broncos team while winning 11 of 12.
It’s hard not to believe in Drew Brees, but the Saints don’t have nearly...
Green Bay Packers win nail-biter against New Orleans Saints
Now that nobody in Green Bay has fingernails left and some will be sporting new gray hairs on their head it is time to sum up the game.
This game featured a battle between the starting quarterbacks as Aaron Rodgers threw for 319 yards and four touchdowns. Not to be outdone Drew Brees threw for 446 yards and three touchdowns.
In terms of offense, the Packers had a solid attack. ...
Saints Nation: Scouting the Chargers
The Saints are 0-4 and the only thing we have to really root for at this point is Brees getting the consecutive games with a passing touchdown record. He's currently tied with Johnny Unitas and one touchdown pass in this game will give him what he needs to eclipse it. So who will be the man to catch that touchdown pass? I'm going with Jimmy Graham. Of course while the Saints...
Fantasy Football Week 5 Preview I
Sunday marked the triumphant return of many Fantasy Football players. Last year’s juggernauts such as Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Roddy White and Drew Brees finally lit up the fantasy scoreboards like their owners have been expecting them to.
