In their playoff win against the Lions, the Saints Put Up 45 Points and never punted.
Yeah, what else is new.
Sean Payton went for it on 4th down on the Saints’ own 38 yard line.
Oh okay. (Yawn!)
Drew Brees pulled off his 7th straight 300+ yard passing game?
Um…so your quarterback doesn’t do that?

Nola Chick isn’t being smug. (Well, except for referring to herself in third person). The truth of the matter is that Saints fans shouldn’t be bragging about the team’s win against the Lions in the dome. What we saw on Saturday night is just how this team rolls.

Even if you were a little nervous in the first half, and who could blame you, you had to know that in the end, this team was going to get back to doing what they do. Sean Payton made it clear with his gutsy calls. Pierre Thomas made it clear with his bruising runs. And Jimmy Graham made it clear with his classic one-handed catches.

After the game, Brees made it even clearer while speaking to the media.

“We were pulling out all the stops. We play aggressive. We’re not going to apologize for that….We’re not going to pull the reins back. It’s pedal to the medal.”

Those are the words of our quarterback folks and if they don’t send chills down your spine, then go slam your hand in a door or pour scolding hot water down your pants because you’re no longer among the living.

The Lions, God love ‘em, put up a heck of a fight. Megatron is one talented, terrifying beast that no team should want to face too often. But this is a Saints team that quite simply won’t be denied. They have their eye on the prize and they have a certain stank on ‘em that lets me know they mean business. It’s not swagger folks. It’s straight up stank!

Swagger is pompous. Swagger is the Miami Heat. Swagger is Kippie Kardashian (There’s gotta be at least one of ‘em named Kippie right?). Swagger is this guy.

The Saints aren’t that guy. If anything, we’re this guy.

They’re not trying to earn the respect of the media. They really don’t give a **** whether they’re “America’s Team.” They’re not scoring points to impress anyone. They’re scoring because they can. They’re saying hey, “You don’t like it? Cool. Then just stop us.” And they’re sitting back and waiting for takers.

The Lions were a solid opponent. They had every reason to come into that dome with a “we have nothing to lose” attitude and go for broke. Maybe that’s exactly what they did. But for the Saints, it was a non-issue. They weren’t concerned with playing the Lions’ game. They have their own game, their own mission.

The final score was not the most impressive part of the win. It was the poise…nay, the stank that really struck me. It was the equivalent of that hot guy in high school who wasn’t over the top hot but “he’s leaning against the locker chewing gum and it makes your toes curl” hot. It was their “business as usual” approach, even after two turnovers and being down at the half that told me everything I needed to know.

Have I mentioned they put up more than 600 yards of offense and didn’t punt once in the entire game people. NOT ONCE! Holy balls…

I look forward to their match-up next week against the 49ers. It will be a different kind of game indeed. But so long as they bring the stank, we’ll get the W.

Who dat.
