The 2012 Bucs are undoubtedly playing better football than last season’s team. While the record was the complete opposite last year at this time, the Buccaneers are much more physical this season and are staying in games. But some in media circles are not sold yet on the Bucs and ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio seems to be one of them. During his weekly appearance on the Matt Segal Show on 96.7 The Champ in Biloxi, MS, Sal Paolantonio had these brief words to say about the Bucs when asked about the Saints upcoming opponents:Tampa is a non-factor…. A weak team with a very inexperienced coach using a bag of college tricks that aren’t working.“Sal Pal” is a very respectable media figure and you won’t find anything wrong said about him here. However, whether he has actually seen film on the Bucs or not is uncertain so here are some rebuttals to his brief statement. Why exactly is Tampa Bay a non-factor? Is it due to their 1-3 start? If you have seen or attended the games, the Bucs have been in every game. In their three losses, they have been within a touchdown at the end with a possibility of winning them.Head coach Greg Schiano has instilled a physical mentality into this team and so far it has shown. The Bucs are currently ranked fourth against the run when last season the team could not even come close to stopping anyone. Players like Gerald McCoy, Mason Foster, and Roy Miller are playing at different levels than seasons past. Drafting the likes of Mark Barron and Lavonte David on defense and acquiring Carl Nicks and Vincent Jackson on offense validates they have made moves to not be “weak.”As far as Schiano’s “bag of college tricks,” could that be in reference to the way he wants to play the kneel down? Schiano is not going to change that and it’s been debated so people need to let it go.The team has definitely faced some struggles but that comes with the territory of having a new coaching staff to get acclimated to. Whether it’s Josh Freeman struggling, lack of execution, or play calling, all can be corrected. But one thing is certain, this current Bucs team is heading in the right direction as opposed to recent years.(Photo via ESPN Media Zone) The post Sal Paolantonio with some not so kind words about the Bucs appeared first on The Bay Cave.
