I can’t account for the past four or five weeks in my life, but I have strange memories of being surrounded my little green men and red headed woman on what could have been the interior of a space ship of some kind…
I also think that I must have been locked inside some sort of a time continuum, because as I have returned to normal life again I have come to understand that the New Orleans Saints have unexplainably started the 2012 season with an 0-4 record. My only explanation for such an occurrence is that while I was lost in this time continuum thing-a-ma-jig, the proper order of things in the NFL was also affected in a reverse manner for certain teams, including my Saints.
Anyway, it is what is it at this point and the next task at hand is for the 0-4 New Orleans Saints to host the 3-1 San Diego Chargers at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this Sunday night at 7:20 PM Central Time.
The New Orleans Saints tried out five wide receivers on Tuesday, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.
Jason Hill, Brian Robiskie, Preston Parker, Rashied Davis and Deon Butler all had workouts with the Saints early this week.
Hill is a former San Francisco 49ers third-round draft pick from Washington State. He was with the Denver Broncos during the preseason. He has caught 76 career passes for 1,028 yards and eight touchdowns. Hill tried out for the Oakland Raiders in December. The 6-foot, 202-pounder was cut by the Jaguars on Nov. 10 after catching a career-high three touchdowns and 367 receiving yards on 25 receptions. With the 49ers in 2008, he caught 30 passes for 317 yards and two touchdowns. Hill started 10 games last season before being released. He’s entering his seventh NFL season.
Robiskie is a former Cleveland Browns second-round draft pick who was last with the Jaguars and has recently tried out for the New England Patriots. Parker has caught 44 passes for 596 yards and three touchdowns for his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Davis is a former Chicago Bears wide receiver who has caught 92 career passes for 1,095 yards and five touchdowns.
Butler is a former Seattle Seahawks player from Penn State who has caught 57 passes for 611 yards and four touchdowns.
Apparently, none of those five receivers were any more impressive to the team as Greg Camarillo, who the Saints just re-signed yesterday, October 3, after having released him just exactly a week earlier on Wednesday, September 26.
With injuries lingering on both Marques Colston and Devery Henderson and a recent one to Lance Moore, this re-signing of Camarillo appears to be strictly an insurance move in case any of the Saints’ current receiving corps of 5 players, Colston, Henderson, Moore, Courtney Roby and Joseph Morgan, happens to go down and out with something more serious injury-wise.
Marques Colston
Lance Moore
Devery Henderson
Yes, the Saints’ running game and rushing defense both need to improve drastically in order for them to start recording wins in the record book for 2012, but I say it’s all just hog-wash.
Darren Sproles, now a Saint
Forget about stats and trends, because I know that the normal time continuum is back in effect and the proper outcome for the Saints will be for their first win of the season this Sunday night in the Superdome. Plain and simple, the Saints will win this Sunday night at home against the Chargers because I am back to covering them and everything can return to being right in the Saints’ sports world once again.
My final score prediction is New Orleans Saints 37, San Diego Chargers 34 on a close one that goes down to the wire.
