Geno Smith’s ankle looked better yesterday. His decision making? That still needs work. The Jets rookie quarterback was back on the field after missing Saturday’s preseason win over the Jaguars because of a sprained right ankle. Smith moved better in practice yesterday than he has since suffering the injury on Aug. 9 but he still had a rough day to start off a crucial week in the competition to be the team’s starting quarterback. During team drills with the starters Smith went 1-for-6 with an interception. This comes after his last practice — which featured four interceptions — was labeled “brutal” by coach Rex Ryan. Smith appears to be trailing Mark Sanchez in the competition but he has one last chance to make a big move on Saturday when the Jets face the Giants. Smith is expected to start even though Ryan would not reveal his starter yesterday. Smith the team’s second-round draft pick said he does not believe the Giants game will decide the competition. “I don’t think so not ...

New York Jets name Geno Smith starter for third preseason game

Rex Ryan has named Geno Smith the starting quarterback for the New York Jets third preseason game Saturday, against the New York Giants. Rex Ryan, Marty Mornhinweg and the rest of the Jets coaching staff have not been given enough game film on Smith to be able to determine if he should be the starter week one. Smith played very little in the preseason opener because he injured...

New York Jets – Quarterback Decisions Draws Near

The New York Jets quarterback competition has received an expectedly high level of scrutiny and criticism. It has been a battle filled with conspiracy theories, poor facial hair decisions and an ankle injury. Yet, there is a good chance we will know who the Jets starting quarterback will be against Tampa Bay by this time next week. Many Jets fans have seem to forgotten that Geno...

Mark Sanchez Now Sporting Fu Manchu Mustache in Addition to Headband, Still Looks Ridiculous (Photos)

On Saturday, the New York Jets played a team actually worse than them, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and won handily 37-13. Quarterback Mark Sanchez had a serviceable day, too, going 13-for-23 with a touchdown and an interception. But was it really Sanchez out there — or Bizarro Mark Sanchez? Earlier this offseason, Sanchez made waves with his fashion sense when he was spotted sporting...

With ‘two turnover-free quarters’ this weekend, Geno Smith will be named the New York Jets’ starting quarterback

The New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta reports rookie Geno Smith needs just “two turnover-free quarters” Saturday night against Big Blue to win the Jets’ quarterback battle. Chosen 39th overall out of West Virginia, “many people in the organization” want the 22-year-old Smith to lead over the bush league Sanchez. Despite an ankle injury and uneven play, Smith may get the...

Jets Will Start Geno Smith Against The Giants, If Healthy

Manish Mehta reports that, barring a setback this week, Geno Smith will start Saturday’s preseason game against the New York Giants. Smith has been dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of last week’s game. He is still in the competition with Mark Sanchez, but it appears as though Sanchez could have a slight advantage over Smith at this point in time. That’s still...

Report: Geno Smith will start this week barring a setback

After missing last week’s game with a sprained ankle,  rookie Geno Smith will be the Jets starting quarterback for this Saturday’s game against the Giants, barring any setbacks. Barring a setback with his ankle in next few days, I'm told Geno Smith will start vs Giants on Saturday. #nyj — Manish Mehta (@MMehtaNYDN) August 20, 2013 Mark Sanchez played pretty well last...

Geno Smith Named Jets Starter for Giants Game

The Jets and Rex Ryan have taken a huge step towards naming their s regulastars son starting QB by naming Geno Smith the week 3 starter over Mark Sanchez. It is well known that Mark Sanchez is Rex’s guy and I’m...

Marty Mornhinweg to Geno Smith: Turn it Loose

The New York Jets organization gave its players handy cards called "Media Bridges" complete with phrases to use with reporters. Daily News posted photos of the front and back of the cards which will hopefully bridge the gap between the Jets players...

Initial Reaction – New York Jets – 37 Jacksonville Jaguars – 13

A handful of Sunday thoughts on the New York Jets second pre-season game, a 37-13 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars 1. This was a concerning night all-around for the New York Jets defense. The book on them still looks to be: pick up the pace and get the ball out quickly to your skill position players in space, forcing the Jets to make open field tackles. Dee Milliner had a “Welcome...

Much Ado About Nothing

The New York Jets franchise has been a laughing-stock circus in the NFL for the past year and a half. The team’s departure from its on-field success with a stifling defense and a power running game to off-field distractions like head coach Rex Ryan’s tattoo and his supposed foot fetish, to the acquiring and subsequent mishandling of Tim Tebow, the Jets were ripe for the reaping...
