Whenever Santonio Holmes meets with the media, there's a good chance his soundbite will become a major headline.

Thursday proved to be no exception.

In his first interaction with reporters since last Sunday's stinker of a game against the Titans -- one catch for 25 yards -- the Jets' mercurial receiver failed to take any blame.

“I can’t throw it to myself and catch it, otherwise I would,” Holmes said, via the New York Daily News. “I played 49 plays, and all I know is I had one catch. That’s all I can attest for.”

Adding injury to insult, Holmes injured his hamstring during the game and is expected to miss a few weeks. An official prognosis, Dr. Holmes?

“My hamstring feels like it hurts,” Holmes said. “If it makes sense, that’s exactly how it feels right now.”

Holmes has recorded 10 receptions for 243 yards and one touchdown this season, with his best outing coming in Week 3 against the Bills -- 10 catches, 154 yards, and the game-winning score. Likely to be cut next offseason, Holmes is essentially in a contract year and doing his best to maximize his value, albeit in an offense muddled by a turnover-prone rookie quarterback.

Despite his attitude, Holmes is far and away the Jets' top wideout, so his absence will surely hurt Gang Green's offensive "attack." The good news for New York, however, is that playmaking running back Mike Goodson's suspension has ended, meaning he's free to play in the team's Monday night showdown in Atlanta.

Knowing what it's like to serve a multi-game ban -- Holmes was suspended for the first four games in 2010 -- he might be able to lend some advice to Goodson.

Or not.

"It's not part of my job description to counsel Mike Goodson," Holmes said.
