News of Percy Harvin sitting out the first day of practice raised some eyebrows. Later, news of an apparent hip injury surfaced and immediately Seahawk fans were panicked. Harvin apparently has a slight tear in his labrum. It is not known if surgery is needed yet, but Harvin will seek a 2nd opinion. The Seahawks dished out a nice chunk of change for Harvin to be a staple in this potent offense. Losing him hurts the Seahawks immensely. The instant argument that blew up my Twitter feed was, “we were (11-5), we don’t need Harvin to win the super bowl.” Stop it. Losing Harvin for a few games to an entire season hurts the Seahawks, and hurts the development of this team on offense. While it is unclear what is wrong with Harvin, news will surface soon. Surgery might be an option in which case Harvin’s season will be put into question. Team doctors and the Seahawks recommended Harvin doesn’t get surgery, and practice while getting treatment. I don’t know why the Seahawks, who just made a 6 year $67 million investment in him would want to put him out there if getting injured is a question. It all seems odd because Harvin was going full speed just a matter of days ago. Seahawk fans are praying for a speedy recovery. If Harvin requires surgery the Seahawks are right back to where they started on offense, or ended. Harvin was the big splash free agent signing this offseason for Seattle. Losing him would require Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate to step up on offense. (Even though we already expect them to) If  Harvin is placed on the PUP list for the regular season he would be required to miss the first 6 games. If this happens expect the Seahawks to rely on the three headed rushing attack that I expect to be very talented this season. Lynch, Michael, and Turbin are going to be a problem to stop this year. Harvin made it more explosive, but stashing him like a secret weapon until he is healthy  isn’t the worst option. Seattle will be hoping for good news in the next couple days, while their season doesn’t depend on it, losing Harvin would be a huge blow. I have Seattle as just edging out San Francisco in the NFC West because Harvin was healthy and Michael Crabtree is not. Losing Harvin could even out the playing field. All I know is that week 2 match-up in Seattle looks all the more interesting the closer we get to it.
