In a perfect world things are easy. Even in a not so perfect world, some things come along and the decision is simple. But when it comes to the NFL Draft things are far from easy or simple. And with the 12th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select……..? As I sit and ponder at the team needs for Seattle it comes to no surprise that it is difficult to figure out who the Seahawks will select in this year’s draft. Or is it? The Seahawks are in desperate need for two key positions; linebacker and defensive end. With the loss of LB David Hawthorne, the Seahawks are left with a big void. And although they were able to resign Leroy Hill, there is still a need at the position. Seattle’s other top need is on the defensive end to help complement Chris Clemons.

So with two key needs on the defensive side and only one pick in the first round at number 12, what do the Seahawks address first? How about both? The logical pick at number 12 is Melvin Ingram out of South Carolina. At 6’1 ½” 264, Ingram is a unique athlete with potential to line up inside or on the edge. He can even warrant a look as a rush or inside linebacker. He possesses size an ideal size for a 3-4 front. His versatility is something that Seattle could use giving them the ability to use him at each position to see where he is suited best in each situation. Something that could prevent him from being taken at the 12 spot is his short arms and ideal strength. Ingram also lacks the experience, having only one-year as a full-time starter.

There is no question that the Seahawks need to fill both the linebacker and defensive end position. Whether they decide to address both with Ingram or not will be found out soon enough. I mean after all the NFL Draft could exist in a perfect world right? We shall see!!
