TEAMS: Seattle Seahawks
As written today by Seahawks.com, Center, Max Unger has been locked in by a multi-year extension. The details and money aren’t readily available, we will update later when the information becomes available. Unger, a 2nd Round pick, 49th overall in the 2009 draft from Oregon has started all 32 games he has played with the Seahawks.
Drafted by the former regime as a G/C, Unger played guard for 13 games, then played the final 3 at center. Unger became the first rookie lineman to start all 16 games since 1992(Ray Roberts). He started the first game of the 2010 season at right guard, and was injured on the very first game. Placed on IR with turf toe, Unger didn’t see much playing time that year. In 2011, Pete Carroll named Unger the starting center, and Unger has been in the spotlight since.
“Pete and I are excited to lock up a young core leader on our offense,” said GM John Schneider. “Max’s consistent and professional approach to his job transcends the locker room and the huddle.”
Unger will continue to maintain the massive wall that the Seahawks are starting to call their offensive line. Russell Okung(6’5″ 310 lbs.) at Left Tackle; Paul McQuistan(6’6″ 315 lbs.) at Left Guard; Unger(6’5″ 305 lbs.)at Center; Lemuel Jeanpierre(6’3″ 301 lbs.) at Right Guard and Breno Giacomini(6’7″ 318 lbs.) at Right Tackle. That is the lineup as of today at Seahawks.com. Fairly certain that a couple of these players will be interchanged once the season starts with all the new acquisitions in the off-season.
Unger added this about the news today.
“I am very happy about this new deal,” said Unger. “We have a developing young line that had some success last year that we can build upon this season. It’s a good deal for the both of us and I couldn’t be happier to be in Seattle.”
Whomever the QB shall be this year it will be good to know that the player they are taking the ball from is locked in and happy here in Seattle. The Offensive Line in Seattle is starting to finally build itself together, and Unger is the main focal point. With Unger, Okung, and new additions John Moffitt, and James Carpenter, the line could soon be one of the best in the league.
