The Seahawks have hit pretty decently on their unrestricted free agents in the John Schneider and Pete Carroll era.  Last season, players like QB Josh Portis, S Jeron Johnson, WR Ricardo Lockette, CB Ron Parker, and of course WR Doug Baldwin all played on the 53-man roster at one point or another during the year.  So who has the best chance of making an impact this season?

  1. WR – Jermaine Kearse, Washington
Kearse was a three-year starter for the Huskies, proving to be the favorite receiver of both current Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker and current Huskies starting QB Keith Price.  Kearse had a down year in 2011, with only 47 catches for 699 yards and 7 TDs.  He did have a 1,000-yard year in 2010 though (63-1005-12), proving he can be a go-to receiver.  With his record of production, good size (6’2”, 208 lbs) and a much faster 40-yard dash time during his Pro Day compared to the Combine (4.44 vs. 4.58), Kearse seems like the most likely candidate to make the squad.

  1. WR – Lavasier Tuinei, Oregon
Tuinei was the leading receiver for the Ducks in 2011, tallying 48 catches for 599 yards, and 10 TDs.  Tuinei is a very large receiver, standing 6’5” and 220lbs, making him a natural fit size-wise to be a backup to either Sidney Rice or Mike Williams.  While his 40 time wasn’t all that impressive at 4.53, it was a good time considering his size.  Tuinei has a lot of value as a jump ball artist or a fade route runner for the back of the endzone, which might be the reason he is kept on the active roster over a more well-rounded talent like Kearse.

  1. TE – Sean McGrath, Henderson State
McGrath was a starting TE his sophomore year at Eastern Illinois, before a violation of team rules caused him to be dismissed from the team.  He caught on at Henderson State, where he ended up with 55 catches for 656 yards and 4 TDs his junior year.  He fractured his foot his senior year and missed all but the last four games of the season.  McGrath didn’t show to have great speed during his pro day, only running a 4.79 in the 40 yard dash.  He does have decent height at 6’5”, but is a little undersized weight-wise at 247 lbs.  The reason he might make the team is that he has shown to run good routes and has soft hands, plus the team only has starter Zach Miller who’s a lock to make the team.
