PLAYERS: Sio Moore
TEAMS: Oakland Raiders
Sio Moore was one of my favorite LB prospects this year because of his versatility. As I followed him through the draft process I was amazed at how underrated he was. In a UCONN defense that has produced some very solid NFL talent Moore stood out. His ability to rush the passer combined with his coverage ability is very rare for such a young player. He’s a good enough pass rusher to help the Raiders 27th ranked pass rush and isn’t a liability in coverage like former #55 Raider LB Rolando McClain who couldn’t cover his shadow. Moore most certainly will have some growing pains along the way but any one that has been following my Raiders Training Camp notes knows that Moore is being used all over the field. He has been receiving first team snaps and according to the Raiders new depth chart (keep in mind these are always very much in flux) will open the season at SAM. As I reported yesterday Sio limped to the sideline after making a play on the pass but it didn’t seem too serious. I expect him to rest today and be ready to play at least a series or two tomorrow night. Need NFL Tickets? Loading... Return of Watson and Sims to Raiders camp doesn't go too well

Second-round pick OT Menelik Watson and DT Pat Sims started off the Oakland Raiders training camp on the non-football injury list and the physically unable to perform list respectively. But on Wednesday, together they made their return to the field after passing physicals. Then in a span of a few hours, they both left with injuries.

Oakland Raiders Thoughts from the 1st half

The new look Raiders offense got off to a disastrous start against the Dallas Cowboys. A missed assignment on the offensive line led Matt Flynn to be crushed from a blindside hit, which jarred the ball loose and led to a Cowboys recovery. Although the offense  looked awful from the start, the Raiders new look defense looked good. Second year defensive lineman Jack Crawford made...

Terrelle Pryor pretty impressive tonight

Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor was pretty impressive during tonight’s game against the Cowboys. He looked more comfortable in the pocket whiling flashing some poise and confidence throwing the football.  His throwing motion also looked better than it ever has. Pryor led the Raiders down the field on a few impressive drives.  One ended after he threw an interception in the...

NFL Rumors: RB Darren McFadden shuns Oakland Raiders contract extension feelers

The Oakland Raiders selected RB Darren McFadden with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. McFadden is entering the final year of his rookie contract and a report this evening suggests that the Raiders organization has reached out about a contract extension. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport suggests that McFadden wants no part of a contract extension at this time. He wants to return...

Raiders OL Menelik Watson had a short-lived first practice

Menelik Watson has been missing for all of Raiders training camp with what was an undisclosed injury but later revealed as a calf injury. It’s been a big setback for the rookie right tackle because each day he’s been absent, he’s losing valuable opportunities to learn in his first training camp as well as losing ground to Khalif Barnes on the depth chart. But good news came...

Raiders second-round pick re-injures calf

Second-round draft pick Menelik Watson's first practice of training camp lasted less than 30 minutes Thursday before the Oakland Raiders' offensive lineman left the field after re-injuring a calf muscle in his left leg. Watson, the 42nd overall pick and projected backup to right tackle Khalif Barnes, had been on the non-football injury list since the beginning of camp after...

Matt Flynn’s friends gave him a hard time about worst quarterback ranking

When the Raiders first convened for offseason workouts earlier this year, the early buzz was that Matt Flynn was looking like he was about to be beat out by another rookie named Wilson, this time instead of Russell of Wisconsin it was Tyler of Arkansas. But things have changed. Tyler Wilson has since fizzled and is embarrassingly being outplayed in training camp by undrafted free...

Flynn’s friends razzed him about being ranked worst QB

First off new Raiders quarterback Matt Flynn doesn’t read the newspapers or watch too much TV. “As a football player whether it’s good or bad out there it’s probably best not to read it” said Flynn who makes his preseason debut with Oakland Friday against Dallas. But … it’s impossible to tune it out when former Eagles quarterback and ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski is in...

Darren McFadden says Matt Flynn is Radiers’ Starter

Don’t think this is necessarily breaking news, more like confirming what you already should have known. Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden was on NBCSN’s Pro Football Talk and when asked if Matt Flynn would be the starter for the team this season, McFadden was pretty straightforward and honest. “Yes, pretty much,” McFadden told Erik Kuselias, via ProFootballTalk...

Raiders Open 2013 with a Victory over the Cowboys

The Oakland Raiders made their 2013 debut under the bright lights of the O.Co Coliseum, achieving their first win of the year, against the Dallas Cowboys, with a final score of 19 to 17. With several consistent drives that lacked execution after going deep into the enemy’s territory, the Silver & Black paved the way to victory with four field […]

Matt Flynn says Aaron Rodgers taught him how to be thick skinned

When Matt Flynn was in Green Bay, he had the chance to experience the craziness that Aaron Rodgers went through when Brett Favre was still in town. Flynn claims he was able to learn how to deal with a circus-like atmosphere from watching Rodgers. “What Aaron went through was a circus,” Flynn said, via the Contra Costa Times. “There were all the questions from the media, people...

My Lunch With Chris Kluwe

With each passing generation the dogma of the professional athlete as role model has become more and more blurred. Once unwavering symbols of perseverance and fortitude, the brand of ‘pro athlete’ has been tarnished by countless sexual assaults, armed robberies, drug possession, and murder. Today, these few gifted individuals are increasingly less known as athletes, rather as...
