The Jaguars (2-12) traveled to Miami to take on the Dolphins (6-8) and their performance did not disappoint, if you expected to see horrendous, practically unwatchable football. It was a boring, ugly and downright tough game to watch. There were obvious mistakes, penalties and a lack of competitiveness throughout the course of the game. The end result was Jacksonville losing 24-3 to a team that will finish the season with an 8-8 record, at best. So where should the team go from here? A heavy examination of the game film? Negative. There were only a few things I saw worth building on for next week and the subsequent future; Cecil Shorts’ development, Justin Blackmon’s development and another one of those beautiful and rarely seen strip-sack plays by Jason Babin. But that is all. What about the moral victories? Not a chance. They scored 3 points in 60 minutes. Even though the Dolphins’ defense has been solid at keeping their opponents’ offense at bay (now 6th in the league in points allowed because of that foul and offensive performance), that is still unacceptable. As of now it is about the future. Actually, it has been that way for weeks. It is the time for everyone in the organization to begin planning for the future, if they had not done so already. For players this simply means putting their best play and effort on film for all 32 NFL teams. For coaches it means to start thinking about coaching interviews that will more than likely take place this offseason. Oh and it is already quite clear what will be happening with the scouting department.  My case and point is that there should be a clearance sale of epic proportions down at EverBank Field this offseason. EVERYTHING MUST GO. Now am I suggesting to tank the season? Not in a million years. But if the team’s best collective effort has warranted a 2-12 record, drastic changes need to be made. Very few people on this team, if any, should feel safe. This has been an embarrassment of a season and is the worst in franchise history. It will be a long road back to relevance. Getting completely outplayed by a team that is barely average suggests that. So what now? Blow this team apart properly. Make the necessary moves and adjustments, no matter the cost. Just give the whole “building a contender from the ground up” process its due diligence in order to give this team its best chance to win the ultimate prize.
