There’s not one topic I feel like talking about today as we endure a week of Super Bowl and Hall of Fame propoganda. The Browns introduced their defensive coordinator Ray Horton yesterday, but even that was putting a cap on old news. With that in mind, I thought I would just combine a bunch of things into one post today… Alex Smith to the Browns? So Brandon Weeden thought he dodged a bullet when the Browns failed to land Chip Kelly, I bet. I hope he didn’t spend too much time sighing with relief because the Browns quarterback rumors are flying fast as the Browns are being linked to the 49ers’ own displaced QB Alex Smith. It makes some sense because as we all know, new coaches tend to gravitate toward familiar players, and Google is full of pictures of Alex Smith sitting next to Norv Turner. That’s also why we were treated to a lot of Chud-fueled Derek Anderson news a few weeks back. So, is it good or bad for Browns fans? I am not a quarterback expert, and I’ve heard plenty of people...

Report: Smith likely to request release

The San Francisco 49ers' former starting quarterback Alex Smith is expected to seek his release before free agency, according to Pro Football Talk. Smith, who lost the starting job to Colin Kaepernick in Week 10, would prefer to be released so he can garner the full benefits of free agency, the report says. The 49ers aren't likely to release Smith because of his value in...

Report: Alex Smith wants to be released before free agency

Nobody will be surprised if Alex Smith won’t be back with the 49ers next season. The franchise now undoubtedly belongs to Colin Kaepernick, who has taken Smith’s starting job and presumably also his parking spot. Whether Smith’s exit (if it does indeed happen) in the offseason comes via a trade or the team releasing him is still TBD. But according to Pro Football Talk, Smith...

Wrongly shelved quarterback Alex Smith wants to be released by the 49ers and walk away from San Francisco

Rather than waiting to be traded in the offseason, wrongly shelved quarterback Alex Smith will reportedly request the San Francisco 49ers to release him before the start of free agency. After getting concussed in November, 2011 AP NFL Coach of the Year Jim Harbaugh sandbagged the 28-year-old Smith and inserted Colin Kaepernick as the team’s permanent replacement under center. The...

49ers' Alex Smith is asking for his release

Word is out that 49ers quarterback Alex Smith is asking for his release from the team. The news comes from Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com. The news comes as no surprise, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the 49ers grant his request.I wrote last week about how the Chiefs should go after Smith. But if Smith opts for free agency, that could open up things a bit. You'll...

Report: Alex Smith Will Not Be Member of 49ers Next Year, Will Be Traded or Released This Offseason

After being usurped as the 49ers starting quarterback by Colin Kaepernick this season, rumors have swirled that Alex Smith wants out of San Francisco. It appears the Niners will grant him that wish. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported via Twitter on Tuesday that the 49ers will attempt to trade Smith after their season ends this Sunday, and if that proves unsuccessful he will be respectfully...

Let Smith-to-Cards speculation commence

Oddly enough, maybe the two biggest stories out of Super Bowl week have been related to deer-antler spray (?) and the future of one team's backup quarterback. With rumors circulating that 49ers quarterback Alex Smith will request his release after the season, FOXSports.com reported Tuesday that the Niners instead will seek to trade their former starter in hopes of recouping...

49ers reportedly will try to trade Alex Smith before releasing him

Alex Smith has been a good teammate despite being demoted this season, so the 49ers reportedly will try to treat him well in return. Smith had a good season for San Francisco before being replaced as the team’s starting quarterback after being concussed during a Week 10 tie against St. Louis. Colin Kaepernick replaced him, led the team to the Super Bowl, and has clearly emerged...

Darrelle Revis To The 49ers For Alex Smith?

Here’s another installment of speculative trade ideas for Jets CB Darrelle Revis. ESPN’s Adam Schefter joined SPN Radio Tuesday morning and tossed out a speculative trade idea that would involve the Jets sending Revis to the San Francisco 49ers in return for QB Alex Smith and a second round pick, per Jane McManus. There’s no question that the Jets could use quarterback and...

Notebook: Alex still playing the good soldier

Alex Smith ran off the field at Candlestick Park two weeks ago to a standing ovation and cheers from the sellout crowd, not much different from the reception last January when he took the 49ers oh so close to a Super Bowl. Now relegated to a backup role with the NFC champions, Smith's trip to the Big Easy this week leading up to Sunday's Super Bowl against Baltimore is hardly...

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome: As long as I’m here, I want Flacco here

While the Super Bowl is the singular focus for the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, there is a future after the game. And for Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, his future with the team is up in the air as he is scheduled to become a free agent in the off-season. While Flacco and the Ravens have both made it clear they want to work this out, Flacco will almost certainly...

Ravens’ GM says Joe Flacco will be back next season

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome told CBS Sports that Joe Flacco will be a part of their organization next season. “He’ll be playing football for us next year,” said Newsome. “We’ll be able to get that thing done,” he said. “But one thing we do know, he’ll be playing football for us next year. And sometimes that’s all you can look forward to is just...

Ravens QB Joe Flacco Could Get The Teams Franchise Tag

Joe Flacco has insisted throughout the playoffs he's not concerned about his contract until after this season. And based on Ozzie Newsome's comments Tuesday at the Super Bowl Media Day, Ravens fans shouldn't be worried, either. Newsome more or less confirmed that the Ravens will use the franchise tag on Flacco if they don't get a long-term deal done before the tagging...
