EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Antoine Winfield might be getting closer to deciding on where he wants to continue his career after being cut by the Minnesota Vikings on March 12.
Winfield, who will turn 36 in June, is scheduled to visit with the Washington Redskins on Wednesday, the first free-agent visit for the 14-year veteran and three-time Pro Bowler since he was a surprise cut by Minnesota on the first day of free agency. A source told FoxSportsNorth.com that Winfield has heard from a handful" of teams since being released and is trying to sort through his options, with the Vikings still in the mix to re-sign one of their defensive leaders from last season's playoff team.
Minnesota held Winfield out of many practices last year in an effort to keep him fresh, and the move paid off. Winfield played in 16 games a year after playing in only five and had 110 tackles and tied for the team lead with three interceptions. Two of his previous three seasons had been marred by injury.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, free agent cornerback Antoine Winfield will visit with the Washington Redskins on Wednesday.
Ex-#Vikings DB Antoine Winfield is set to visit #Redskins on Wednesday, I’m told. Also talking to Vikes still, as well as 1-2 other teams.

Jared Allen is going to account for $17
million against the Vikings salary cap in the upcoming season. He’s
in the final year of the six year contract he signed in 2008, which
at the time was the richest contract ever signed by a defensive
player. With 74 sacks in the last five years it’s hard to argue
that the team hasn’t got its monies worth up until now.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Minnesota Vikings re-signed linebacker Marvin Mitchell. Darin Gantt of Profootballtalk.com writes:
‘Mitchell’s a good reserve and special teamer, the kind of guy that teams traditionally try to keep around for consistency in the kicking game.
The former seventh-rounder has also played for the Saints and Dolphins.’

FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS

According to 1500ESPN.com, Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen underwent minor offseason knee surgery.
Allen underwent knee surgery on Jan. 31, the same day he had the shoulder repaired, two NFL sources said.
One source categorized the knee surgery as a “minor” cleanup job. The expectation is Allen should be ready for the team’s June minicamp.
Allen will turn 31 next...
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. The Minnesota Vikings retained some of their linebacker depth on Tuesday.
Multiple reports say Minnesota re-signed linebacker Marvin Mitchell, who played in 11 games last season, starting one for an injured Erin Henderson. Mitchell, 28, did deal with injuries of his own and had 10 tackles and one forced fumble for the Vikings, playing mainly on special teams...
