How does a 37 year old with a beat up body, torn triceps, and severe loss of speed make up for it? Like anyone else, use banned substances like Ray Lewis is now being accused of doing. According to a report from Sport Illustrated via philly.com, Lewis contacted a company called Sports with Alternatives to Steroids (S.W.A.T.S.) after tearing his tricep in October. The report states: “S.W.A.T.S. owner Mitch Ross recorded a phone conversation with Lewis after the linebacker's injury in October.” Here is the transcript of the conversation as told to by David Epstein and George Dohrmann of Sports Ilustrated: Ross prescribed a deluxe program, including holographic stickers on the right elbow; copious quantities of the powder additive; sleeping in front of a beam-ray light programmed with frequencies for tissue regeneration and pain relief; drinking negatively charged water; a 10-per-day regimen of the deer-antler pills that will "rebuild your brain via your small intestines" (and which Lewis said he hadn't been taking, then swallowed four during the conversation); and spritzes of deer-antler velvet extract (the Ultimate Spray) every two hours. "Spray on my elbow every two hours?" Lewis asked. "No," Ross said, "under your tongue." Lewis asked Ross to "just pile me up and just send me everything you got, because I got to get back on this week." The deer-antler spray contains IGF-1, which is on the NFL's list of banned substances. var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});

Ravens cheerleader cries foul on team

Courtney Lenz will not be among the Ravens cheerleaders in attendance at Super Bowl XLVII and she believes she wasn't invited because she's retiring at season's end.

Ray Lewis avoids talk of report on deer spray

Of all the topics Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis might have been prepared to talk about at Super Bowl media day, deer-antler spray probably was not among them. He declined to directly address a Sports Illustrated report that he sought help from a company that makes the unorthodox product to speed up his recovery from a torn right triceps. Lewis was the NFL's leading tackler...

Ravens’ Support for Joe Flacco’s Future Contract Makes It Sound Like They’re Not Sure About Winning Super Bowl

Joe Flacco may not be in line for Peyton Manning money, but the Ravens have been saying all the right things this week about getting him a new contract after this season ends. Baltimore general manager Ozzie Newsome‘s latest comments, however, sound like maybe he was whipping out the wrong cliché for the moment. “We’ll be able to get that thing done,” Newsome said Tuesday...

According to the San Jose Mercury News, a couple in the San Francisco area found a person on Craigslist that was supposedly selling four Super Bowl tickets for $5,900.  The seller was supposedly a Ravens fan, but they didn’t care, they wanted the tickets. So after emailing, texting and talking with the seller on the phone for a week, they wired the money to his credit union. On...

Baltimore Ravens Path To The Super Bowl: Top 5 Regular Season Moments

The Super Bowl is rarely a match-up of two teams that cruise their way into the championship game. Only once since 1993 have the top seeds from either conference made it to the Super Bowl. The fact of the matter is that once you get in to the playoffs, anything is possible. So if that is the case, then the real goal is to simply make it in to the playoffs and then fight, claw, and...

Top 10 Oldest First-Time Super Bowl Players

Baltimore Ravens 15-year veteran center Matt Birk is making his Super Bowl debut. At 36, he is one of the oldest Super Bowl rookies, and he came to the NFL in the same Minnesota Vikings draft class as current San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Randy Moss. I think is interesting to make a list of the Top 10 senior players who made their first (and for many only) Super Bowl appearance...

Ed Reed: Seau 'signed up for it'

If anyone should be an expert on safety, hits and the NFL, you’d think it’d be Ed Reed.

Ed Reed cuts his hoodie sleeves because of Bill Belichick

If you see Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed walking around donning a hoodie with cut off sleeves, it's OK to call him a Bill Belichick poser."He's the first guy I saw like, 'That's cool.' You know, that's cool," Reed told ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley. "He cuts those sweater sleeves, and he'll be comfortable. So there's a reason why...

Ray Lewis Took A Banned Substance? Truth or Lie?

We're in the middle of Super Bowl week, leading up to the big game between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers. There are plenty of plots leading up to the game, but perhaps the biggest plot involves Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis. Super Bowl XLVII is supposed to be the last game of the storied career of Lewis. If that wasn't enough to capture your interest...

Mark Schlereth, Hannah Storm caught doubting Tim Tebow’s NFL future?

Tim Tebow may have absolutely nothing to do with the upcoming Super Bowl between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, but that never stops the folks at ESPN from talking about him. The World Wide Leader usually has no shame about forcing Tebow into its programming schedule, but this time it was an accidental behind-the-scenes clip that appeared to reveal he was a topic of...

You never say never in sports and especially when money talks. Ravens star safety Ed Reed will be a free agent this off-season, and Pro Football Talk via Peter King is reporting that Reed will on the radar of the rival New England Patriots. King reports that New England would like a hard-hitting ball hawking safety, and Reed could be the darling of their eyes.  Bill Belichick reportedly...

Spending habits of Ravens, Niners proves defense still wins championships

During the 2012 regular season, 11 NFL quarterbacks threw for more than 4,000 yards. Through the 2008 season, only two quarterbacks in league history had ever thrown for more than 5,000 in a single season — Dan Marino with 5,084 in 1984 and Drew Brees with 5,069 in 2008. Then, in 2011, Brees, Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford all threw for over 5,000 yards. Eli Manning just missed...

Ravens-49ers Preview

Preparing their respective teams for Super Bowl XLVII might be easier for John and Jim Harbaugh than having to downplay the distraction of becoming the first brothers to coach against one another on the NFL's biggest stage. With each focused on trying to take home the Lombardi Trophy, Jim's San Francisco 49ers look for a record-tying sixth Super Bowl title Sunday in New...
