Starting right cornerback Cedric Griffin tore his right anterior cruciate ligament during the fourth quarter of Monday's 29-20 loss to the Jets, according to a source close to the situation.
Griffin, who left the locker room clearly distraught and in crutches last night, recently recovered from a torn left ACL in the NFC Championship loss to the Saints on Jan. 24.
Griffin, who has four years remaining on a five-year, $28.5-million contract, played two games this season and had eight tackles. Griffin has been the Vikings' starting corner for the previous three seasons.
The Vikings currently have three healthy cornerbacks -- Antoine Winfield, Lito Sheppard and Asher Allen. Rookie Chris Cook, the potential starter at right corner, could return from a torn meniscus by next week.
