The availability of Chargers veteran backup quarterback Billy Volek thsi week is coming into question. For the second straight day, Volek was not with his teammates when they began practice at Chargers Park. Walking with a noticeable limp Wednesday, Volek said he had joined practice late, but he was withheld completely Thursday. Taking his snaps is journeyman J.T. O'Sullivan, signed just a few days after Volek was banged up in the Chargers' preseason finale. Head coach Norv Turner did say, however, that O'Sullivan "won't be the No. 2" in Kansas City.
