Found March 18, 2013 on Steelers Depot:
As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers officially signed tight end Matt Spaeth to a contract on Monday. The deal is for two years, but the numbers are not out yet. It is hard to imagine that Spaeth received a signing bonus of more than $1 million. I would guess that it is somewhere in the neighborhood of $500,000 and possibly even less. This would put the 2013 cap number for Spaeth at around $1 million or just slightly higher. We shall see when the numbers get posted. Based on it being a two-year deal, I think the Steelers have already penciled in Spaeth as being on the 53 man roster this year. Read more [...]

Steelers LB Jason Worilds Chomping At The Bit To Prove He Can Replace James Harrison

When the Pittsburgh Steelers released linebacker James Harrison over a week ago, it left a void on the right side of the defense that fourth-year linebacker Jason Worilds will be asked to fill in 2013. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who is currently in Arizona for the annual NFL owners' meetings, commented Sunday on the opportunity that awaits the 2010 second-round draft pick...

Matt Spaeth is coming back to Pittsburgh. The Steelers signed the free agent tight end on Monday, reuniting Spaeth with the club that selected him in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. The 29-year-old Spaeth spent his first four seasons with the Steelers before moving on to Chicago, where he caught just 13 passes for 78 yards and three touchdowns in 31 games. Pittsburgh needs...

Translating Tomlin’s Comments on the Steelers

The National Football League Owners are meeting out in Phoenix, Arizona in what can only be described as a ‘meeting of really rich old white guys.’ Well, it is! Also at these meetings are team general managers and head coaches and that means the Pittsburgh Steelers head man Mike Tomlin is there enjoying the weather if nothing else. Tomlin spoke to media this morning and while...

Steelers Interested In Long And Dummervil? Really?

Over the last few days the Pittsburgh Steelers have been reported as having interest in former Denver Broncos defensive end/outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil and current St. Louis Rams tackle Jake Long. While these reports certainly get the Steelers fan base excited, you have to wonder how much water that these reports hold. Face it, the Steelers are working with very limited cap...

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert says he hasn’t received an offer sheet for Emmanuel Sanders

According to Josh Alper of Profootballtalk.com, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert hasn’t received an offer sheet from the New England Patriots. Reports are receiver Emmanuel Sander had signed an offer sheet from the Patriots; however, Colbert says no contract has surfaced. The Steelers must receive the offer in order to match the offer or work out the compensation...

Steelers reportedly made a run at Jake Long

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers tried to make a move to land left tackle Jake Long before he ended up signing with the Rams. I’m not sure where the Steelers would get the money to pay Long, since they’re only roughly $3 million over the cap right now.  But it was a great idea.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script...

Mike Tomlin Says The Read Option Is Just ‘The Flavor Of The Month’

Mike Tomlin isn’t a believer in the read option scheme that has taken the league by storm, and turned the QB position on its head. The two time winning Superbowl coach is anything but sold on the option play, compared to traditional pocket play. As reported by USA Today Tomlin said the following while at a Tuesday media session for AFC coaches at the NFL Owners’ meeting: ...

Report: Steelers Have No Plans To Bring In Free Agent RB Ahmad Bradshaw

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Sunday that the Pittsburgh Steelers have interest in former New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, however, reports on Monday via Twitter that the Steelers have no plans right now to bring in Bradshaw, per a team source of his. As I pointed out in my previous post about Bradshaw, he has several medical...

Jets G Willie Colon Has A Big-Ass Chip On His Shoulder After Being Released By The Steelers

Here is a report that we think we can trust. Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports on Twitter Tuesday that former Pittsburgh Steelers guard Willie Colon, who signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets recently, is not too happy with the way that things went down with the Steelers. "I do have a big-ass chip on my shoulder," said Colon, when asked to talk about his release...

Mike Tomlin Says Read-Option Offense is ‘Flavor of the Month,’ Feels It Could Fizzle Out Like Wildcat

The read-option offense took off in 2012 behind the phenomenal play of quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick, Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson. But while some coaches likely stayed up long nights this offseason preparing to defend it, one coach isn’t quite sold. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the offensive scheme at the NFL Annual Meeting on Tuesday, saying he...

The Ravens and Steelers compete at least twice a season as division rivals during the NFL regular season, and now according to reports, they’ll be competing for the top pass rusher on the open market also.
