After breaking his left arm Saturday night against the Atlanta Falcons, the first reaction was Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Byron Leftwich would miss the entire 2011 season. However, it appears that may not be the case after all.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on Sunday that a source close to the Steelers claims Leftwich may not miss the entire season after all–but the time period of how long the backup quarterback will be out has yet to be determined. If Leftwich is out for the year, Pittsburgh would have to rely on Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch to backup Ben Roethlisberger.
The Steelers acquired Leftwich from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to the 2010 season with the intention of him being the starter while Roethlisberger missed the first four games due to a suspension–but that never happened after he suffered a knee injury right before the start of the regular season.
