The Patriots added a piece to their defensive backfield Thursday, signing former Chargers safety Steve Gregory to a three-year contract. Gregory is a free safety by trade, but he's also got experience on the strong side and in the slot. Gregory has a strong special teams reputation, too. A source indicated at least four other teams were interested in Gregory -- San Diego, Houston, Denver and Carolina -- but he agreed to terms with New England less than 24 hours after arriving in Foxboro. Gregory will compete to start alongside safety Patrick Chung, though the Patriots could still add pieces...

Source: Safety Steve Gregory Will Visit Patriots on Wednesday Night

Safety Steve Gregory will visit the Patriots late Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium, according to a source. Gregory, who went undrafted out of Syracuse in 2006, has played all six of his NFL seasons with the Chargers. He's a free safety by trade who has also played on the strong side and in the slot, and Gregory has developed a reputation as a valuable player on special teams...

Chargers in critical talks with Mike Tolbert

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers are at a critical stage in their contract talks with running back Mike Tolbert. The Chargers want to know if Tolbert is going to stay or not, they could end up deciding to just move on to free agent Jackie Battle. I know that Tolbert has least another visit scheduled and there are reportedly numerous teams that...

Friday Wrap: Connolly returns, Gregory joins Pats

While it may not be the big splash Patriots fans were hoping for, Bill Belichick appears to have found a new starting safety in six-year veteran Steve Gregory.  The former Charger brings starting experience, versatility and athleticism to a cripplingly-bad group of safeties from 2011.  In 15 games, Gregory recorded 67 tackles and a pick. His best season came in 2009 when he posted...

Robert Meachem to Chargers: Fantasy Impact

The Chargers needed a deep threat to replace Vincent Jackson and may have found themselves quite a bargain in the talented Robert Meachem. Meachem will slide into the number two role in this offense and has a chance to supplant Malcolm Floyd as the effective number one option before the season is complete. Meachem goes from a crowded receiving corps in New Orleans to one with a...

Chargers re-sign Gaither, add Johnson

The San Diego Chargers have re-signed left tackle Jared Gaither to a four-year contract and signed unrestricted free agent linebacker Jarret Johnson, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, to a four-year deal. Gaither helped solidify the Chargers' line during the last five games after he was waived by Kansas City. He replaced Marcus McNeill, who sustained a season-ending neck injury...

Former Chargers Pro Bowl Left Tackle Marcus McNeill to Visit Falcons

Step away from that ledge Falcons fans, we have our first free agent visit lined up!  I am almost in a state of shock that D. Orlando Ledbetter said Atlanta should look at Marcus McNeill... and it is actually happening. McNeill plans to visit Atlanta next week hopefully to help shore up a left tackle spot that has been as successful as the Hindenburg. Marcus receives a playful...

Philip Rivers wants Peyton Manning in Denver

You can't fault Philip Rivers' competitive nature, even as the team around him looks like it's falling apart. The San Diego Chargers missed the playoffs last season and conceded the AFC West crown to the Tim Tebow led Denver Broncos. Now Rivers would love to see the Broncos bring Peyton Manning aboard. Not because he has a personal vendetta against the guy. It's because...

QB Whitehurst rejoins Chargers

Quarterback Charlie Whitehurst has agreed to a two-year contract to return to the San Diego Chargers. Whitehurst was San Diego's third-round draft pick in 2006. He was the third-string quarterback behind Philip Rivers and Billy Volek for four seasons and never attempted a pass in the regular season. He was traded to Seattle and played in nine games in two seasons, throwing for...

Patriots Sign Two More: White, Gregory

The Patriots announced two more signings Friday. Linebacker Tracy White rejoins the team, and the club confirmed previous reports that free agent Steve Gregory agreed to terms.

Big ‘Bucs’ for Vincent Jackson: Tampa Bay shows him the money

This year’s free agency frenzy continues with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers making a splash on the high seas, reeling in WR Vincent Jackson to a 5-year deal, first announced on the team’s twitter account and followed by an official press release. The Buccaneers, owners of the most salary cap room in the league ($44.9 million), had the dough to spend, you could say. Jason La Canfora...
