It’s almost redundant to write about Alge Crumpler’s blocking. Since the Patriots signed the veteran tight end, he’s been displaying the skill they believed they signed him for on a regular basis.
And he’s been even more. Crumpler’s crushing blocks have keyed a resurgent run game, attacking defenders in all areas and defeating his guy on an almost 1oo-percent basis. But it gets more obvious when you re-watch a game and focus solely on Crumpler.
That’s what I did for the 34-3 win over the Bills, and it was the topic in today’s edition of, Subject to Review after the Patriots gained 217 rushing yards.
How good was Crumpler? In the 43 plays it took to build a 31-3 lead, Crumpler was on the field for 26 of them. Only once did his man make the tackle. And, when the team ran directly behind him, the result was 10 carries for a whopping 81 yards.
